RIP Jack

Jack Kemp was a great man. He was a mentor to many of my friends. He was a friend to me and my family. He was a legend and a man’s man. He will be terribly missed.

Jack was scheduled to attend Game 7 of the first round of the Caps playoff series. He loved competitive sports and we all so looked forward to seeing him. He canceled out of attending that game at the last moment and just yesterday, Raul Fernandez and I were talking about him and how we needed to go see him ASAP and reminisce. So many of my friends are deeply connected to Jack and this will be a severe blow to them. Jack was bigger than life.

Jack was a role model; a great athlete; a professional football player; an organizer; an economist; a politician who served nobly; and a businessman. I couldn’t name a single person who knew Jack who could say a single bad thing about him. He was one of a kind.

Jack will be missed terribly by his family; his business associates; his friends; and the community at large. He was such a fun guy to be around and his passing is just a terrible reminder that life is precious. Seize every moment. RIP Jack Kemp.

There is Nothing to Fear but Fear Itself

Thanks for a great afternoon at Verizon Center. I thought our fans were outstanding. The building was loud, inhospitable and rocking. There were very few opposing team fans in the building so your loyalty and our programs to limit out of town fans surely worked. For all of those folks who were concerned about Pens fans coming into our building, I think you can relax a little bit in that it is easier to come to a Saturday afternoon game than a Monday night game. We have sold out to mostly season ticket holders and the big benefit of season ticket ownership is access to playoff tickets. We have loyal and great fans that don’t want to sell their tickets on the secondary market so thank you for that. It is most appreciated.

NOW I Understand Why the President Won’t Come to a Game :-)

He must have asked our Vice President or “Sam” here for advice and they told him, “Don’t go to any place that is confined like an arena or take Metro to the game or shake anyone’s hands.”

This is why I mostly disrespect authority. I will do the exact opposite of what our VP says. I will be at all of our games. I encourage people to take the Metro and I will shake about a thousand hands at the arena. I will breathe in all of the excitement; share in the aura; and bask in our humanity together.

Rip-off and a Compliment

As I noted, Twitter is a great product but a derivative of the original AIM status update environment.

And 6 years ago, we launched AIM Fight. Click here to play.

And now here is an AIM Fight rip-off for Twitter. Click here. See any resemblance?

Everything old is new again.

But I don’t want to hear about how cool and innovative this stuff is. As a grizzled old media vet said to me, ”Same crap - different bag.”

Blushing

Don’t get too high with the highs or too low with the lows is my motto.

Here is an article that is so sweet and nice and positive that I had to republish it here. It is over the top and I am humbled, flattered and appreciative. And I promise when I next get skewered in the media, I will republish that article too to be fair and balanced. Click here to read this one.

Thank you so much for this positive and generous article. That was a nice scene in the locker room and I am also appreciative of you not noting that I did kiss Alex on the cheek as well as a thank you for the first series victory. How can you NOT love this kid?
