Quite a Fun Sports and Entertainment Related Weekend

The Hershey Bears won twice at home this weekend to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the AHL Calder Cup Finals. One more win and the Cup goes back to Hershey. Go Bears! Way to win on Saturday 3-0 and on Sunday 2-1! The team is getting outstanding playoff goaltending. We are very deep in goalie prospects now. That is such a comforting thought, isn’t it ?

The Bears play again at home trying to close it out on Tuesday. Click here to read about yesterday’s big win.

The Washington Mystics started strong too with a Saturday night win over Connecticut and a big win over Atlanta at home yesterday. We have a lot of depth now; a lot of team speed; and an entire new upbeat and positive attitude. We had a big and enthusiastic crowd yesterday at our season home opener. It was loud and it was appreciative of how we responded to being down big after the first period to coast to an easy win. I am hopeful that our rebuild of the Washington Mystics is as successful as our rebuild of the Washington Capitals. So far so good. Click here to read about the Mystics performance from this weekend. I hope to see you all at a game this season.

I watched the Roger Federer’s victory at the French Open while I was working out. There was a scary incident when a fan ran out onto the court and ran up to Federer. Click here to see the clip. Security sure needs to be beefed up. This should never happen at any sports venue.

Congratulations to Roger Federer. He is now one of only six players to ever have won all four major events and he tied Peter Sampras with the most grand slam victories with 14 major championships.

And then last night, I got to watch the end of the Memorial Classic and see Tiger Woods birdie the last two holes to win the tournament. How clutch is he? Wow!

Before I turned in, I watched some of the Lakers vs. Magic game but I didn’t stay up to see the outcome. They need to start these games at 7:00 pm EST.

All in all, it was a great weekend of sports plus I delivered a commencement speech; saw David Byrne in concert; went to see a film; worked out a lot; swam and got some sun. My wife says it was a very enjoyable and productive weekend.

  1. Hey, shouldn’t there be some love for the South Carolina minor league team too? They won their championship with a win in friggin’ Alaska. Now THAT’S a road game……..

  2. It sure sounds like a wonderful weekend! Speaking of exciting sports, our little Chantilly HS teams had 3 state championship games on Sunday – girls soccer, girls lacrosse and boys lacrosse. The girls won both their games – exciting state championship games. The boys lost in overtime – but it sure was close. It’s great to see kids so excited about their high school teams! What an opportunity to be part of 3 huge games in one day!
