Exciting Times This Weekend

Here’s to hoping that George McPhee and staff have a productive weekend in Montreal. Click here for a very good article about the team and its desires this weekend at the draft.

We believe we have a very good team but need to improve to become an elite team. The way that we will improve mostly is that our core group of young players will mature, gain experience and learn what it takes and the price to pay to compete and win a Stanley Cup. We are fortunate that our core group is growing and includes players such as reigning league two-time MVP Alex Ovechkin, Alexander  Semin, Nicklas Backstrom, Mike Green, Brooks Laich, our two young goaltenders; and perhaps John Carlson, Karl Alzner and Anton Gustafsson. That is a great group to build around and that group is a very young core of players. We also have several good young players who have tasted great success in Hershey who will push people for minutes in the NHL. This internal competition should raise the state of play of everyone on the team.

Like An NBA Game

It was up and down the court with lots of scoring and lots of athleticism. A 93 to 87 loss to the Phoenix and the Mystics learned a lesson last night. We can run and gun with anyone but defense will win games most nights.

Read this article from the Washington Post. Come on out to see some games. For basket ball purists, WNBA basketball is a terrific sight to see.

Red Sox Nation

I went to see the Red Sox play our Washington Nationals last night. It was a beautiful night and a perfect setting for baseball. The Red Sox have a great team - and I mean team. They have strength throughout the lineup with great pitching and a great bull pen. They beat the Nats but it was a fun and well played game.

Last night’s crowd set all-time attendance records at Nationals Park and I bet more than two-thirds of the crowd were Red Sox fans. In my row, my son and I were the only Nationals fans.

When Ortiz hit his home run, I looked around and it seemed like everyone in the park was standing and cheering. Red Sox Nation was out in full force.

I know the Nationals can build up a big and loyal following and sell the place out on their own one day but more than 100 years of tradition have served the Red Sox well and winning a few World Series doesn’t hurt either.

Let Us See If We are Real

The Washington Mystics host the Phoenix Mercury tonight at Verizon Center. They are one of the better teams in the WNBA. They play a run and gun style and have an all world player on their team in Diana Taurasi.

Should we win we would go to 5 and 1, by far our best start in franchise history even though we are missing one of our best players due to an injury.

Come on out and see for yourself. Are we real? Is this team a contender?

Go Mystics!

Such a Great Film

Watch The Future of Food. The revolution will be metabolized.

This is a wonderful film and it pre-dates the new big film to come called Food Inc. This film deals with how processed our foods are; the policies and marketing tactics used; and what we need to know about our food supplies. It is very well done and we are proud to bring it to you on SnagFilms.com. Click here to fire it up.

“The Lost Son of Havana”

I went to see this great documentary film on Monday night and met the directors, producers and the star of the show, Luis Tiant. The film was a sports film - produced in conjunction with ESPN - but, more importantly, was a film about family, coming home and politics as well.

My family and I really enjoyed it. It brought back lots of memories to me about growing up in Lowell, Mass; going to Red Sox games; and then watching the Sox play the Reds in the World Series from my dorm room at Georgetown University. Luis Tiant was truly then “EL TIANTE”.

I am going to the Nationals game tonight to see them play the Red Sox. I will be rooting for the home team but a little bit of me smiles when I see the Sawx play!
