District 9

Went to see District 9 this weekend. I am kind of speechless. I didn’t know what to expect and was blown away. This film is an oddity. There are no stars; very different production values; and a big budget but a dirty camera filter and unbelievable special effects that push the story along. And I’m betting a sequel is coming within three years.

You will either love or hate this film. It is doing quite well at the box office. It is a political thriller with aliens. You will never look at sea food the same way again.

  1. It was very well done in an extended Twilight Zone episode kind of a way…. or a down and dirty scifi film like the original Terminator or Robocop–which both have some nice satire in them.

I think the only reason someone might not like the film is that they were expecting Men in Black…. which some of the marketing felt like.

  2. It reminded me a lot of Enemy Mine. D9 is the superior flick, but it definitely borrowed from movies like EM — similar themes and plot, just w/ better direction, SFX, and writing.
