I was asked to consider being a judge on Shark Tank but I passed. I have met Mark Burnett several times and he thought I would do well on this show.
I thought the commitment was too time intensive and I didn’t want the hyper public scrutiny of being on network television. I watched the show Sunday night and thought it was fun and fairly realistic although most deals take six months to conclude NOT six minutes and they certainly aren’t proposed in an auction kind of environment that favors the businessman not the investor.
So what do you think? Did I make a mistake by not going on the show? Or did I make a wise decision in not going for it? Let me know what you think. Thank you. And check out the show sometime. Good television.
I say it was a good call. IMO, it would be a better idea to appear on Snark Tank.
All the products on that show are absolutely terrible, and generally speaking, the “sharks” come off as major jerks (except maybe the rightmost seated guy).
Nothing to gain and all to lose. Are they actually investing their own money?
Ted,
You start with Shark Tank and next thing we know, you’re on Dancing with the Stars and in Big Brother 27.
Thanks for not falling in that trap.
You chose wisely. I watched the show with Chrissy and her family, and it sparked good conversation. IMHO – it’s show business in the end; with some good lessons peppered in. Curious to see how it does as the discussion may be too technical for the masses.
You could pull it off Ted.but we want you around DC to enjoy the Caps this season.
Hey Teddy, I just watched the show the other night for the first time. A man was looking to expand his sweet potato pie business. I liked him. He got the money. He had to give up something like fifty percent of his business. I thought it was pretty interesting. But I am such a skeptic, I was wondering if it was all on the level. As far as public scrutiny, your the kid from Bklyn who has done good and continues to make a difference. We have “A CUP” to win! LETS GO CAPS!!!!!!!
Good call. One aspect I really enjoy about following your blog (and the Caps), is the way you keep it real. You have a lot of great interests and activities presented in a down to earth matter. A nice hype free zone.
Thanks.
Good call Ted. I have doctors in my family who had TV show opptys and which the deny. You never want to be on TV when the you’re not sure what the outcome will be, hockey games excepted of course.
Your background is of course impeccable. It would have been enjoyable pitching to you, the results might have been different.
There is always, next year! Hope you get an invite back because the show might seem stale if they leave all of the Sharks unchanged. Hope to see you on the show!
Sincerely,
The Inventor who can’t say who (she/he) is
You’d have to say ‘no’ too often, and deal with childish bickering from fellow panel members.
But, in the quickie bio at the beginning of each episode: a handshake with Ovi at center ice at the Verizon Center, watching a Snagfilms logo on an extravagant home theater screen…I’m thinking that’s worth a 1 year contract for however many episodes in the inaugural season.
Assuming you could know it would last a season.
Never heard of it and didn’t see it. I’ll try to catch it this week and let you know. Sounds interesting.
