Music Rising with The Edge

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Here is a wonderful film about New Orleans; its musician community; and how people are working together to rebuild the artistic community via philanthropy. U2’s The Edge is deeply involved with this process. Check this film out ASAP on SangFilms.com. Click here. It is very moving and well done.

OFB on a Hot Summer Day

Thanks On Frozen Blog. Great stuff here. Hockey season is a-coming. Click here to get the juices flowing. I couldn’t bear to watch the replay of our playoff games against the Penguins but should you so desire, they are being shown on the NHL channel on DirecTV every night this week at 7:00 pm EST.

Anonymity Only Goes So Far These Days

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Google was forced by a court to turn over information regarding a blogger’s identity. This is big news. The offending blogger turned out to be a friend of the victim in this case. How sad. And to be honest, it was all about some “name calling” and not actual physical threats.

Anonymity only goes so far these days. Be careful about what you post on message boards and on blogs. Threats and statements that you don’t want ultimately to be tagged with your name or email address - or even your photograph - are easily traceable. Be careful out there. Most people’s identity can be found out using email, Facebook, Google and, in this case, a court order.

There is less and less anonymity on the web so be prepared to stand behind what you say. Or don’t say it in the first place and believe that you will remain anonymous. This court ruling was surprising to me but it is what it is. New rules are being written daily about privacy on the web. Stay atop of what is happening out there. Read this article.

Tough Call

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

The Washington Capitals are leaders in building a big tent for new media. We want as many people and sources to cover us as possible. I just saw an interview with Ron Wilson, our former coach, on the NHL channel where he was bemoaning that while he was coach in DC, at some games, there were only one or two reporters covering the team.

Today after some games, we can have more than 100 people covering our team. The proliferation of media is exemplified right there and most of the new sources are based on the web and are bloggers, portals and folks who are part of new media networks.

We believe the more tagged content about us out feeding the algorithms in the sky, the better for us. The more pixels generated, the better for our fans, our franchise and our business, too.

Popular, Aren’t We?

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

We must generate some good ratings on television as VERSUS and Canadian TV are broadcasting a lot of Caps games this coming season. We will be on VERSUS seven times and on national TV in Canada 17 times.

All of our games, as is our way now, are televised. Thanks Comcast SportsNet. We have come along way in terms of broadcast exposure over the last 10 years, haven’t we?

Click here for the news release regarding our national TV exposure. Go Caps!
