Popular, Aren’t We?

We must generate some good ratings on television as VERSUS and Canadian TV are broadcasting a lot of Caps games this coming season. We will be on VERSUS seven times and on national TV in Canada 17 times.

All of our games, as is our way now, are televised. Thanks Comcast SportsNet. We have come along way in terms of broadcast exposure over the last 10 years, haven’t we?

  1. I am sincerely appreciative of any and all efforts that will be made to show ALL the Caps games in one form or another. If it is not going to be televised due to the VS monopoly, then I hope there is a way to show the game online. I recently saw that the Redskins were able to do that for their un-aird preseason game, so I hope the Capitals organization will be able to do the same.

On another note, about the CSN game broadcasters.. nothing against Craig Lauglin personally, but I am finding him more and more annoying and distracting. He is talking way too much about himself, etc. and not what is actually taking place during the game at that time ( which is what I want to hear).

  2. Ted, are all the home games televised on CSN going to be HD? I understand that some road games will not, but there is no excuse for CSN not making this transition into the digital age for the home viewers. Looking forward to 2009-2010 campaign.

By the way, I regularly see Capitals car magnets down here in Hampton Roads. Seems that Caps Nation is ever expanding.

  3. Since the NHL.com article came out with their national TV broadcast, I was quite concerned with this statement: “Versus has exclusive rights in the United States to the time slot for 26 games this season, meaning there can be no other game being broadcast in the country at that time. The network will air 54 games in total.” I actually e-mailed the writer for clarification, since it sounded like the only hockey allowed to be shown on TV on certain nights would be on VS and we would miss a Caps game on TV since another matchup was being shown at the same time slot on VS. This is the response from the NHL.com writer: “Directly from VS, for the exclusive time slot VS has the only game airing in the U.S. at that time window.” (Made it seem like my theory was correct.) This is from the VERSUS website: “All of the network’s regular-season games are exclusive and VERSUS’ regular-season schedule features a Game of the Week wherein VERSUS will be the only place on television to watch an NHL game in the U.S. at that time.” (Once again seemingly to confirm my theory.) However, Ted says above that all games are televised. I hope that’s true… guess we’ll know for sure when the local broadcast schedule comes out in a couple of weeks. LET’S GO CAPS!

  4. Joe Beninati is a very good play-by-play man, and he does an excellent job on CSN.

However, “Laugher” is an absolute embarassment. Even if he didn’t think that every single penalty against the Capitals is the worst call in the world, the fact that he manages to mangle other players’ names like none other is enough to keep the TV on mute for me. I didn’t even mention his grating voice….oh wait…I guess I just did?

  5. yeah! as STH my husband and I go to all the home games and often re-watch them when we get home that night, or the next day. And of course we watch the away games we can not attend in person!

  6. Good for you, bad for me. I much prefer the CSN guys in the booth and really miss them when they aren’t calling game!! I really wish I could press the SAP button and hear the local guys!!!
