That is the best description I have heard of Inglourious Basterds. It is the best worst film I have ever seen.
I wish I was in the pitch meeting with the Weinstein Bros. I can see it now…”So we kill Hitler. The Jews win and Brad Pitt stars.”
I loved the filmmaking. The gore was kept to a minimum. The acting was ironic, funny and not over the top and the pacing was good although some scenes dragged on and on.
The ending is spectacular. It is another film a la Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill that people will talk about and feel is influential from here on out. The film felt like the last big film of the summer to me, too. Go and enjoy it. Experience kosher porn.
I’m not at all a fan of Tarantino, but Basterds is a great flick and definitely worth seeing. It doesn’t have that famous QT self-indulgent pseudo-depth that Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs, and Pulp Fiction had. I swear if I hear one more person call QT a “genius,” or Kill Bill a “masterpiece,” I will immolate myself in protest of the world’s stupidity.
With that said, Basterds was excellent.
