Maybe there could be a middle ground where some AHL talent could go as well. This would work only if the other leagues such as the Swedish Elite and the KHL agreed to the same terms. 1980 likely wouldn't have happened with NHL players. Fewer then would want to become ice-hockey players and would choose other sports that would put them in highlights at their homecountries. As a result, NHL will be loosing its international stars (kind of a big issue for Caps, isn't) and, as a rusult, money. It will also create a momentum for KHL—a battle that NHL will still have to win with years to come. Finally, this is not an issue to reserve a change of opinion on--you either believe in this or you don't.
