DJ AM was found dead — it appears that he may have taken his own life — via a drug over dose.
I am very surprised at this news — DJ AM had a ” reckoning”; he survived a plane crash two years ago — he walked away burned and scared — but he was alive and had a second chance on life. Usually when people get this ” mulligan” on life — they dedicate themselves to finding meaning in their remaining time here on Earth — and they work and search to find happiness and to leave more than they take. I just spoke with a passenger on the flight that went down in the Hudson — he was so upbeat and raring to go on the next chapter of his life; he was eternally grateful regarding this second chance.
Or — sometimes — in rare instances — the hurt is deep — the guilt of survival is profound — and someone takes the darker path and takes matters into their own hands.
This tragedy could have been avoided — here is a heads up — everyone has or will have their own personal reckoning; live and learn needs to be the motto. Stay the course — live life to its fullest every day! I feel terrible that this young man ended up in this situation, post surviving a plane accident less than three years ago.

…and, yourself certainly one to know planes and reckoning.
And of survivor’s; I took a Class with an Italian professor, Massimo, at George Mason University. I chose the course because it fit into my schedule nicely. I didn’t know what I was in for. Surprise!
We read Primo Levi, Italo Calvino, and other selected texts. Primo Levi; chemist, writer, Auschwitz survivor, author of “If This Is a Man,” threw himself off a third story landing 40 years later; in the not-so-distant past. In the history of human civilization; the Nazi Holocaust happened yesterday.
I will forever pair Primo Levi with Italo Calvino; though Calvino escaped the Lagers, but his parents were abducted and heald by the German SS. How’s this for a quote about mothers; “The historical events which mothers take part in acquire the greatness and invincibility of natural phenomena.”[23]
Have been thinking a lot about this lately after the release of the new Dinosaur Jr. Album, video, and looking forward to upcoming 9:30 Club show Oct. 8th. Dinosaur Jr. pre-dates Nirvana.
Lead me to track back to the Spring of 1994 and ask, What effect on my generation and others that our voice at the time we were juniors in High School, Kurt Cobain, blew his head off with a shotgun one sunny, Spring afternoon in an attic room above a garage in Southern California? Didn’t see that one coming.
Fortunate for us there was Billy Corgan ready to take the weight and pick up the torch which he did in fine fashion with an album of songs and videos over the next year that kept our voice alive and strong delivering the haunting, sing-song a capella intro to, “Bullet With Butterfly Wings,” rather mater-of-factly, “The World is A Vampire./ Sent to Drain.” Interestingly; another lyric from the song, “And what do you want?/ I want a change.”
A lyric from, “The Everlasting Gaze;” “No. I’m not Dead./ You know I’m not dead.”

Very cool new Dinosaur Jr. Video. Cried a little bit on the 4th or 5th watch when lead J Mascis leans on bassist Lou Barlow to pull him after a spill with the lyrics, “When I needed, you came through.” Cause that’s what they’ve got; each other, and they have been leaning on each other and pulling one another their entire adult lives. And, that’s what they’re tellin’ us, while they shred skateboard and BMX in the City Popper well into their 40s. “Now it’s time to do./ All the things you said were true.”
