  1. Between the DHS, D.C. police, and Coast Guard boats patrolling the Potomac. I think they’ve got it covered. The DHS boats have 4 of the huge outboard motors and a large caliber mounted gun at the front. It’s mere presence suggests some kind of threat. Speaking of; going to Chinatown last year, hanging around MCI, and that area; everything seemed copacetic except the team of militaristic, black-clad, body armored, multi auto-weapon and various devices of whatever nature all over body on constant patrol of the MCI Center-Gallery Place Chinatown Metro entrance/exit. The presence of such a force creates a war-zone like atmosphere; everyone on the street puzzling over such a show of force in such numbers. Maybe there is something I don’t know. It didn’t seem like mayhem was threatening to erupt, or that some kind of armed resistance force might round the far corner in atvs at any moment. Just big and mean and scary and I hope out of place ;-j We got it guys. You guys and gals can take the night off; do whatever it is you do. Go home; see your family. It’s cool. Everybody’s got cellies. We will call ya if we need ya. ;-jeff

  2. Gotta disagree on this one. The problem here was CNN running a story before getting the facts, not the Coast Guard running a pretty routine training. Here’s the follow-up story to the one you linked ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/09/11/AR2009091103842.html?hpid=topnews ). Headline is “CNN Jumps the Gun on Coast Guard Story.”

The other networks called the Coast Guard first. CNN should have done the same. If we’re jumpy, it’s because of outfits like CNN making us nervous.
