The Washington Capitals now have more then 16,000 season tickets sold in all areas of our building - lower, upper, club seat sections and, of course, the suites.
We decided to keep individual game tickets to sell to single ticket buyers and groups. We thought that was fair and the right thing to do. We have been selling and booking groups all summer. Many of these groups have been supportive of us for many years. We sold individual tickets to season ticket holders as a benefit. We then sold some to our newsletter and web list.
And tickets now go on sale to the public. We have less than 15,000 tickets to sell for the rest of the season. I believe we will sell these tickets out quickly as well.
We have done our best to be fair. The tickets are still priced in the lower half of NHL teams and we are at the cap max in payroll so I think we are offering true value to our customers.
I know we will disappoint some people that want to buy tickets. We have done our best to have an orderly and fair process. I know that some fans will be disappointed. I know that some fans will be forced to buy tickets later in the secondary market. We are trying to create more inventory to sell but the building in configured in a way that makes the addition of seats quite difficult. We also want to assure the comfort of our customers in the building.
Thank you for your support, love and care. Please consider buying some of the tickets we have left. They are priced right and are available now but will soon be gone. Thank you. Go Caps!
And to think that a couple of years ago–October 16, 2005, to be exact–I was walking up to the Verizon Center box office less than an hour before the game to see if they had tickets for THAT NIGHT. They had thousands of them. The attendance that night was listed as 10,002, and not all of those tickets showed up. There seem to have been a few minor changes made since then, it would appear.
Congrats on the full house. Now on to a good four-of-a-kind, as in series wins. It will be a privilege to be a part of it.
You’re the best, Ted!
Every ticket sold to a Caps supporter means one less seat available to a Steeltown Sociopath or other hoolie at ‘Category A’ (Guins/Sabres/Wings) matches…now if only there were some way to keep these tickets off the secondary market, we’ll really be taking back our house this season!
Wow! Good on the Caps! This is fabulous news all around. Hope all those fans in seats help the team on and off the ice. Looking forward to the season. Go Caps!
nice job everyone…hope i will still be able to get tix games when i come in from los angeles…guess i can always get tix for the nats…plenty of good seats still available at that stadium
I’m currently attending college out of state, so I normally try and get individual game tickets for when I’m home during breaks — and boy, are the pickings slim this year! I’m now in the category of fan that will have to rely on the secondary market.
Lousy as that is, I am definitely excited for the Capitals organization. This is an excellent problem to have. Great job getting those seats sold! I hope this trend continues. I’m willing to have a tough time getting tickets if it means my team is outpacing supply.
Never thought I would see the day that Caps season is sold out before the season started.
ted, you’ve done a great job. the fact that you have been thoughtful about making sure individual game tix are even available when you could have sold them all as season tickets shows just why you are the best owner in town.
anyone who is dissapointed hasnt been paying attention. the team has been a hot ticket for almost two years and anyone who didn’t or wasnt able to buy them this year has nothing to complain about.
as someone who has been a LONG time season ticket holder (and someone who will be taking advantage of a hot secondary market for some games) i am very pleased at this development. its nice to be rewarded for loyalty. i hope you wont forget those of us that have been with you through thick and thin!!
