“It is an Honor Just to Be Nominated”

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

On Monday night the Emmy Awards for News and Documentary will be presented.

Our film Nanking is up for three Emmys for Best Documentary; Best Historical Programming; and for Craft: Research.

It honestly is just an honor to be nominated.

But what is a thrill is that my son, Zachary, has his own nomination for an Emmy Award in the Craft: Research category. Zach was 16 years old when he jumped in to help us on the film. He worked diligently at the US Archives and Library of Congress and found a treasure trove of information and a long forgotten atrocities film that we used in our movie.

Wouldn’t it be something if our film won an award in this category?

And in keeping it in the family, we are hard at work at completing a new documentary film and my daughter, Elle, has been working on it with me.

It is so much fun to work on “Filmanthropy” oriented projects and to have my entire family deeply involved. Makes a father proud!

Caps Win in Another Fun OT Game

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

We are now 2-0 in preseason play with two OT wins.

We aren’t dressing many of our star players yet. We are letting many of our prospects play to earn the right to play minutes in the NHL this season. Last night’s game against Chicago in Chicago was played in front of a sold out crowd and was a great learning experience for many of our players.

These are “teachable moments” and winning in OT is a wonderful experience for all of our players. It is just preseason so I wouldn’t read anything into these games but we do want to have expectations that we can win in OT games; that we have some destiny working on our behalf; and that we will have good fortune shine on us now.

The preseason is flying by. Camp is fast-paced. The season opener in Boston is right around the corner. Get ready for the puck to drop. Go Caps!

Mystics Lose in OT to End Season

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

A great game but a bad result and our season ends in overtime against the best team in the East. I am proud of the progress we made as a franchise this season. We became very competitive as a team. We qualified for the playoffs and our team is now on its way to ongoing and consistent positive results.

Our new General Manager and Coach helped to change the culture of our team. They are demanding; pay attention to details; and are positive that our team can compete for a championship if we adhere to our master plan. We have to build and maintain the core group of players; draft well; teach team concepts; run the ball; and have lots of depth.

Our players also like one another. There is good team chemistry. We are a young team and we will improve year after year.

I am satisfied with our progress. We have the best and most passionate fans in the WNBA. Thanks to all of you for being so supportive and understanding during our reboot as a team. Part of the team’s success flows directly from your ongoing support. Onward.
