A great game but a bad result and our season ends in overtime against the best team in the East. I am proud of the progress we made as a franchise this season. We became very competitive as a team. We qualified for the playoffs and our team is now on its way to ongoing and consistent positive results.
Our new General Manager and Coach helped to change the culture of our team. They are demanding; pay attention to details; and are positive that our team can compete for a championship if we adhere to our master plan. We have to build and maintain the core group of players; draft well; teach team concepts; run the ball; and have lots of depth.
Our players also like one another. There is good team chemistry. We are a young team and we will improve year after year.
I am satisfied with our progress. We have the best and most passionate fans in the WNBA. Thanks to all of you for being so supportive and understanding during our reboot as a team. Part of the team’s success flows directly from your ongoing support. Onward.
One telling bit from the box-score (http://www.wnba.com/games/20090919/WASIND/boxscore.html): 32 personal fouls called against the Mystics, just 22 against the Fever…Melvin and Sanford both foul out in regulation and Harding picks up an uncharacteristic 5PF’s…while the Fever’s Sutton-Brown, ordinarily a foul-gathering machine, has just 4. And thus the Fever go to the free-thrown line 38 times, against just 20 for the Mystics.
A sad ending to a turning-the-corner Mystics season…and the perfect overture for another season of referee-hosings for the Caps.
Yes….good season and onward to HOCKEY SEASON…Let’s Go Caps!
