The Washington Post print edition has an entire section devoted to the start of the NHL season and to the Washington Capitals.
We have come a long way indeed as a franchise in a three short years.
To those who much is given, much is expected.
Is this the year?
That is the theme of the special section.
We will be tested early and often as we play some great teams from last season right off the bat - teams such as Boston, Philly, San Jose, Detroit, New Jersey and the New York Rangers - all right in the first three weeks of the season.
Drop the puck. Game on. Thank you.
also, don’t forget the great Caps reporting of the Washington Times too. The last week or more has been super, and we owe them a big thanks too.
Thank you for a great team. I have faithfully followed Caps hockey since 1979, and love every minute of it, though I have no family and few friends who are hockey fans. My family laments the start of the season because I “disappear so much of the time.” This is my first blog reading or entry.
But I also want to thank you for supporting nuclear energy — it is a necessary and very successful source for the USA and I’m so pleased to hear you think so too. Thanks for being bold and forthright in two important areas! I just had to find a way to tell you how grateful I am to you. You are really making a difference in our lives.
We can do it! Let’s go Caps!
This is disgusting. A good story gone bad. How could this happen?
Bourque Claimed by Pens
Chris Bourque was claimed by Pittsburgh this afternoon, the team announced. But that doesn’t mean Michael Nylander will get into the lineup for tomorrow’s opener in Boston. Instead, the Caps plan to recall minor-league forward Boyd Kane to skate on the left side of the fourth line.
Coach Bruce Boudreau said Bourque was waived on Tuesday so that the Caps could squeeze under the salary-cap ceiling of $56.8 million.
But here’s the kicker: Bourque earns $577,500 and Kane earns $500,000. So that means the Caps were less than $77,500 over the cap yesterday.
Why did you let Bourque go? What a waste of talent and a draft pick.
