I feel like ESPN has been a friend of the family for decades.
I am about midway through a new book called ESPN The Company by Anthony F. Smith. It is a good read about a company that is now one of the most valuable franchises in all of media and business.
ESPN is a worldwide highly valued brand with literally hundreds of millions of fans; billions and billions of dollars in revenues; and is probably one of the most profitable franchises in business today.
ESPN is celebrating its 30th Anniversary and the Huffington Post did a great piece on ESPN with a terrific video montage in homage to the brand. Check it out by clicking here. Enjoy.
Shhhh. Be quiet. No one will ever know.
Now remember, this is all confidential.
Don’t let anyone know, OK?
Promise? And remember, you all signed a document to keep this confidential. It will be a surprise.

Kudos to Steve Case and the Revolution team for identifying this business vertical category so many years ago. I remember hearing about this space four years ago and then seeing lots of cars near college campuses with the Zipcar logo a fixed to the bumper.
The merger of Zipcar and Flexcar really made for an amazing and fast growing new company that is poised to really transform transportation in big cities.
Here is a great article in Fortune magazine about sharing and new modes of transportation and fast growth for a new company. Click here to read it.
A love story about democracy and an anger filled tale against capitalism – I can’t wait to see it.
I also can’t wait to hear that the film will be shown for free and that the movie theater doors will be open to everyone. Popcorn – fresh, hot and buttered – will be delivered to us in our seats by ushers that smile and call us comrade and the bathroom toilets will be ringed with gold, where it belongs.
Here is a trailer. This promises to be the big documentary film this coming season. Kudos to Michael Moore for making lots of money by talking about how bad capitalism is. Is this a great country or what?
Michael - offer the film for free to everyone on SnagFilms. We will split all of our revenues with you 50/50. How is that for sharing and caring? No? Is that because you got a $10 million guaranteed up front payment? Do you know how many documentaries can be made with that kind of up front payment? Share the wealth.
And here is a great piece in the Atlantic also called Capitalism the movie. I remembered this great piece of journalism from a few years back. It is fantastic writing and an interesting point of view. Click here to read it and reap.

For all of you who are now empty nesters or are preparing to be, watch this film. Now. Today.
This is a magnificent movie. It is well produced with a very important subject that matters to both parents and young adults; how to prepare for Act 2 of parenting; and the phenomenon known as Empty Nest Syndrome.
“The Best Part of Everything” is an important film. The clock is ticking for me and my wife in this regard.

Summer is over. It was a sad three months. A great friend of mine died of a terrible disease (Joe Casella); a great woman passed away and is terribly missed (Eunice Shriver); and a fun and respected friend died a few weeks later (Senator Ted Kennedy). Twenty-one public figures of note died including Michael Jackson; Walter Cronkite; Farrah Fawcett; Les Paul; John Hughes. Click here to read this round up story. And just this weekend a relative of my wife died unexpectedly at 46 years of age.
What is going on? I am glad the summer is over.
We sold 5,000 plus tickets to the first ever Washington Capitals Convention scheduled for Saturday, September 26th, at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. I am psyched. This is a big innovation for us and a new way to connect our fans to our players and franchise. I think it will be a great day. Our entire team will be there as will alumni; team officials; league officials; bloggers; members of the media; and fans from all around the world.
Thanks for your support. I so look forward to seeing you all at the event and look forward to your feedback as we want to make these annual conventions the best in the NHL. Go Caps!
Enjoy the long weekend. Summer is ending and school is beginning. A new season waits. I look forward to relaxing with my family this long weekend.
I am also working diligently on the manuscript of my book. I am working on the new film I am helping to produce and I am getting excited about the Mystics late season push to the playoffs.
I feel great. Enjoy being with your loved ones. No blog posts from me until Tuesday.
