I did my best to be straight forward but these kinds of interviews that let me ramble always make me sound random and off point. Read it here and know I do my best.
Last night’s game was better but not quite good enough.
We were up 2-0 and we ended up losing in a shootout. We will take the one point but after six games, we have six points and basically a .500 record. We all believe we can play better and garner more points. I think after six games we have probably left three points on the table. We have to redevelop that closer mentality and we certainly have to play a bit more amped up at home.
We aren’t totally in synch. We already have a few nagging injuries but we do have hope and belief that we can start to play again up to our talents and potential.
Onward. Take the point. Regroup for a very tough game on Thursday against San Jose.
LOL @ the NHL. A four-game losing streak six games into the season is “basically a .500 record”… gold stars all around for participation!!!
I’d rather see the Caps struggle this early in the season, while there’s still time to fix it.
I’m still much more disappointed that Chris Bourque slipped away to Pittsburgh. The Caps will get over a 2-2-2 start, but Bourque is gone probably for good.
Ted, am I wrong, or was that an avoidable loss? Couldn’t the Caps have kept him by simply demoting him a couple days sooner? Isn’t this an obvious sign of salary cap mismanagement? I hate to be negative, and I’m sorry if I’m wrong, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.
ted-nice to see an article about you in our newspaper here in los angeles. shockingly i saw the article in print before i saw it on your blog or on the times website. although i rarely read the actual newspaper anymore, it was very appropriate that i found your article in the paper first…as there is still something more exciting about seeing something in print.
anyhow..great to see you getting facetime in los angeles and btw her comments comparing the kings owner and you are spot on accurate…its like the kings owner does not even exist
I don’t like to refer to it as basically a .500 record. The caps have earned half the points available, which to some is a .500 record, but they lost 4 of their first six games.
In terms of winning, that is not .500 hockey.
.500 hockey is points available per the NHL.
But to the fans it’s about wins and losses. And this team has won 33% of their games, and lost 66%. It’s early in the season, so it’s an easy fix, but the same propensity to take ill advised penalties are yet again surfacing and not being corrected even after the coach calls them out in the media.
It’s .333 hockey, and I hope it improves
Still lost 4 in a row, Ted.
My two cents is that you came off well in the interview. Anyway, what troubles me about last night is that New Jersey appeared to want it more in the third period. I understand a team getting up by say five goals and then slacking off, but two? I guess developing the closer mentality is the right way to say it.
