Meaty Comparisons

Thanks to Peerless. Here is a ten game comparison - this year vs. last year - on our players and their stats.

I am not sure what it all means but it provides good food for thought.

So far, I don’t think we are playing as well as last season as a team but we do have very good stats for team points and very good individual stats to date. I would NOT be surprised if we did take a step backwards in some areas although I believe our goaltending has been more solid this season compared to last season. I know this year’s team seems to spend more time in the penalty box. If that isn’t true it sure seems that way!

Stats are great to analyze and to ponder but what stats can never measure is effort, heart, luck and subtle improvements and results.

What I think is different this year compared to last year is that we do have more players that are willing to crash the net - Ovechkin, Knuble, Laich, Clark, Bradley and Fehr. All seem to be parked near the crease more this year than in years past for our team. I think that is a key development come playoff time.

And we need health. We are banged up again and we need some luck. How do you measure “luck”?

you summed up the peerless prognosticator well - all stats / no substance. Kind of reminds me of Ron Wilson. :)

it means nothing…here what is important…just make playoffs with a healthy team-
