Yes we are quite disappointed in last night’s outcome. We didn’t play very well in the third period or overtime. We didn’t hold onto a 3-1 lead.
We get a single standings point. We now have 32 points out of a possible 48 points for 24 games played to date.
We are tied for first place in the East. We are tied for second most points in the NHL with Pittsburgh and Chicago behind San Jose who has 36 points.
But we all agree that we are leaving points on the table and we aren’t playing great hockey. We need to regroup. Our leaders need to lead. Our best players need to step up. We know it. Thank you for the reinforcing emails.
Some of our core players are struggling.
We seem dyspeptic and tired. Dyspeptic - good “vocab” word, huh?
Our goaltending has kept us in the games and our young goaltenders deserve better fates. They have been outstanding of late.
But we can’t whine or look back. We have a game on Wednesday and then a game on Saturday and then a game on Monday.
We will have played fourteen games in the month of November. This is a grind physically and mentally. As a great philosopher once said, “What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.”
By end of November we will have played 27 games. The schedule seems compressed to us all but “this is the business we have chosen.”
Thank you for the emails this morning and for the advice on whom to trade; who to place on waivers; who to cut; who to demote; who to punish; and who to fire.
I empathize with your emotions and passion. We aren’t happy either but life will go on. We have a game to play on Wednesday against a tough Sabres team. Thank you. Go Caps!

Ottawa just seemed to want it more in the third period. Inexplicable.
Quote from blog entry: ‘We seem dyspeptic and tired. Dyspeptic - good “vocab” word, huh?’
Truth be told, I’d like to see a bit more ‘intestinal fortitude’ from this team.
Nobody needs to be cut traded or fired. This team just needs to be motivated and learn what it means to play team defense or they will be far too used to coasting by the time the playoffs roll around.
Somebody has to figure out how to make them be responsible on the ice and play like they can.
Poor Greenie played like he was out at the bar drinking with the Russians all night. He forgot to play D and had some majorly bad timing plays like you would if you were intoxicated. My only comment to the team in the shape of a card you would give to a hospital patient, would be “Get well soon!”.
“We are tied for first place in the East.”
Actually, you are not. You are in second. The tie-breaker goes to the team with the most wins, and that is the Penguins.
Players need to be held accountable. Mike Green was horrible. Nothing will be said. When players conitnue to make boneheaded plays, they need to be held accountable. Laichs’ weak clearing passes. Steckels weak clearing attempt.
This team needs a Dale Hunter type Captain. The young players just don’t seem to understand what it takes to win and I’m not talking about 1 or 2 rounds in the playoffs. what is happening with leads in the early part of the season is turning out to be a trend. Strong leadership and accountibility will change that. Players need to be sat if they don’t get it
Tell the boys I know they can do it. They can do this. You can’t “make” someone be something - it has to come from within. They can find that something they need.
