John Lennon – 29 Years Ago

When I heard the news early that fateful morning, I pulled off the side of the road and cried. I loved John Lennon. I couldn’t believe he was dead, shot and killed.

Here is a wonderful piece on that tragic day and a wonderful film embed on the life and times of a great artist and a really cool musician. Watch the movie. Remember greatness. He is still missed to this day.

Thank You and a Giggle

  1. Jim Kelley from SI.com wrote me a personal and confidential letter. It was very gracious and very honest and direct. I appreciate it and this matter is now behind us and I look forward to seeing him at a Caps game sometime in the future. Thank you Jim.
  2. Several fans who blasted us and me about Chris Bourque being put on waivers at the season’s kickoff sent me straight forward emails some with a note of apology and I very much appreciate that sentiment. Thank you – very classy. Hershey is so very happy to have Chris back in their lineup and also happy that he wasn’t assigned to the Pens AHL affiliate.
  3. I have heard you loud and clear and will try not to overreact to some of our harshest critics who tend to be the loudest and most voluminous email buddies to me. I get it. Rise above the noise. Focus on the signal.
  4. A giggle: At noon yesterday I received an email - actually I received 4 emails – from the same person who was talking about Tampa and how the Caps need to be reconstructed more along the lines of Tampa as a team. The back and forth of the email relationship will remain private. It is a healthy debate. We have beaten Tampa now 12 games in a row. Even with that fact, this fan is very convincing and passionate and smart. We are fortunate to have such dedicated fans.

OK - back to rising above it.

Enjoy the moment. Enjoy the ride.

We have work to do. We know it and I honestly appreciate all of your emails, cuss words or not. Go Caps!

Just For a Moment

Take a seat. Relax. Smile. Don’t be smug or self-satisfied. Just have a moment to enjoy that your Washington Capitals are in first place in all of the NHL. Check out the standings.

We have the most points. We have the most goals.

We are grateful. We played well last night winning in a 3-0 shutout on the road in Tampa.

We are off to our best start in franchise history at the 30 game mark.

We are starting to get healthy again. We have great goaltending. How can Varly NOT be considered the top rookie in the entire NHL?We expect Mike Knuble to be added back to the lineup soon.

We have so much work to do. We know we aren’t a great team yet. We know we are open to criticism and we certainly hear about our shortcomings. But for just this one moment - just this split second - it is OK for us to smile and say “well done.” We have the best record in hockey. I have never experienced that before as an owner. It feels pretty good. Ahh – peace; harmony; a feeling of well being…

OK. Snap out of it. What was I thinking? Start worrying again. Go Caps!

Rosetta Stone

What a great name for a company. Unlocking the code in your brain to help you learn how to speak a foreign language. What an interesting concept.

I am pleased and honored to join the Board of Directors of this public company. Their brand and distribution seem strong. Those kiosk and yellow boxes are everywhere.

There are headquartered here. They employ our neighbors and friends. They stimulate our local economy. They are growing. They are profitable.

I enjoy mentoring young executives and helping to drive companies to large scale.

This will be a fun and interesting adventure.

I hope to use their products, too, to learn how to speak Russian.

Go out and learn a new language and become a global citizen.

I am Loving My iPhone and I am Loving These Films

Here is another great film on Apple Computer and the Macintosh.

Gosh - this plays like a soundtrack to my life. I bought an Apple computer at the West Coast Computer Fair in 1980. I had one of the first Macintosh computers back in 1984. We did work for Guy Kawasaki for the Macintosh introduction in 1984. Guy is featured within.

These documentaries really remind me of the good old days of our industry. It also reminds us how important Apple is as a company to our generation.

Watch this film and enjoy. And I must admit that I am loving my iPhone.
