The Capstronaut landed in the owner’s box last night with his glowing multimedia fan blowing full speed inside his suit to keep cool.
Did you know he can’t go to the bathroom during a game; that he doesn’t talk as he must remain “in character”; and that he loves the Caps and he does this all for you, our fans?
He has a great winning record at home. He is considering going to games on the road, by space shuttle I assume.
It was wonderful and fun to host him in our box. He is a true Americana hero!
Did you know that the Capitals have played the least amount of home games so far of any team in the East? I bet you didn’t and doesn’t that make our record more impressive?
We are now home for a nice stretch to even the schedule out. Of course the one away game will be in Pittsburgh. We have quite a stretch - Philly and Detroit at home – followed by Pittsburgh. What a week is coming up. Old time hockey.
Last night we won 6-1 in front of another total and crazed sellout crowd.
We needed to beat Toronto as they play us tough and they are a scrappy team. They beat us pretty good the last game that we played.
They do what they always do when they get blown out: Try to hurt someone to prove they are tough and up and coming to their coach and GM but they aren’t. They are just a team with a 16-29-9 record with 41 points, second to last in the East. As someone once said, ”You are what your record says you are.” Their own coach said they looked like “deer in the headlights.”
Alex Ovechkin had a fun night with 5 points. He is now second in the NHL in scoring. He has 62 points. He has played 8 games less than the league leader who has 64 points. He is third in goals scored and he is second in plus/minus. I think the fans can chant “MVP! MVP!” once again.
Jason Chimera continues to impress. So far the trade has turned out quite well for us. He is big, strong, fast and productive. And he plays with “jam.” We are very happy he has joined our lineup.
I look forward to see you all on Sunday. The Flyers will be flying out there. It will be a great test. Go Caps!
I have to agree that this guy showing up in a astronaut costume and getting to sit in the owner’s box sets a bad precedent.
1. I don’t believe that any one fan should be made more important than another, be it a guy who shows up in a costume, or one who blows a horn all game long. Reward loyalty in your fan base, not someone trying to make themselves more important than the team on the ice.
2. How long before someone shows up in a inappropriate costume, but they are showing their team spirit by wearing it? Do they also get recognized and rewarded by the owner and the local media?
This game was my daughter’s first game – she went not sure that she would like hockey, but left a Caps fan! It was a great game, as usual. The Caps fans are fantastic. Ted, you are a fantastic owner. And I agree with Nats fan – if you would buy the Nats, it would be perfect. As a original season ticket holder with the Nats, they don’t hold a candle to how the Capitals treat their season ticket holders – unbelievable difference. Thank you Ted!!
Please don’t call a random fan who wears a costume to a Caps game “a true American hero.” That accolade belongs to actual NASA astronauts like those who have been to the moon and those killed in the space shuttle explosion, not some random guy dressing up for fun.
True Americana hero? Sorry Ted but that is a pretty stupid comment regarding an attention whore.
I liked the part at the end where our guys killed off the long 5 on 3. Sure it didn’t affect the outcome, but good to see them play with heart.
Teddy, Yesterday, I was in NYC (West Village) wearing my Caps hat. I have to mention I received quite a few “Go Caps”!! And I was even stopped by some guy who asked me where I got my skull cap? I was tempted to give it to him but I just couldn’t part with it. Like I have said before, you definitely have plenty of NY fans! I got home in time to watch the Caps game. Jose Theodore was fantastic!
I am sorry to see Chris Clark go, he is a gentleman. Ovie is looking like a proud new dad with that beautiful and well deserved “C” on his jersey. What a play maker he was last night, very fitting to his new responsibility. Watching the Caps and the fans at The Verizon Center is powerful stuff. Rocking the Red and Way to Go Caps!!
The game was a blast, as always. Couldn’t think of a better way to spend a birthday. Posted some photos of the night on my blog, to include one of Capstronaut in action just a few seats away!
Mad props to Capstronaut for finding his own creative way to cheer on the team.
For some reason, that win felt a little bit more like an escape than a romp, even though we won by an order of wings. That could have been 4-2 at the end of the 2nd, and it’s been a while since I’ve felt that uncertain about a 3-goal lead after forty minutes. That said, a win is a win, I’m not going to argue with the final score, and I look forward to Sunday’s contest.
Ted, Please figure out a way to buy the Nationals. Thanks.
It was a great game to see and a fantastic win. During the play by play I heard both Craig and Joe mention that (close to the end of the game) they wondered if the Caps needed an enforcer. We’ve had those in the past and though I am sure most fans like to see the fists flying it does no good to end up with an extra man in the box for 2 minutes to serve an instigator penalty. I’d rather see them even or up by a player having the upper hand. This is not to say that there shouldn’t be fighting as hockey wouldn’t be hockey without it, but if there’s going to be a scrap, let the OTHER team take the penalty and allow the Capitals to have the upper hand to continue getting those goals.
I have to also say that I was at first apprehensive when I heard that we were losing Clark as I thought he was a great leader, but I am also happy to see that Ovie has stepped into that role and thus far is filling those shoes well. I’d like to think that Ovie will continue to fill the shoes as Captain of those greats before him like Rod Langway did for some many a season.
I am love with that astronaut. And I believe the Washington Capitals have their FIRST cult like tradition we are able to hold onto. Get him season tix stat.
