That is such a great chant.
I was speaking with Matt Bradley yesterday and he mentioned how the players are so connected to the fans and when they start to chant, “We Want Wings! We Want Wings!” it gets the players smiling and motivated. Matt also mentioned that one of his best friends – from Ottawa – mentioned to him that our building is many times more exciting than the building and fan base in Canada’s national capital. High praise indeed.
I was speaking to Jason Chimera and he said he was simply amazed at the volume and loudness of our crowd and that the fans cheer at all times where in other arenas, the only time you hear cheering is when a goal is scored.
Here is a cute little ditty about our fan base and “We Want Wings!” Glory Days Grill – who we are certainly NOT charging enough. Thank you Caps fans. You rock! You eat well, too.
Here’s another great chant:
We want Ted …. to own the Wizards!
Better lose some weight kiddies. We prefer the Caps only win bt scores of 2-1. I keed I keed
I definitely agree that the Verizon Center is a great atmosphere to catch a hockey game. The fans have been loud and energized every game I’ve been to.
I’ve been to several venues in my travels to watch hockey games, including Europe and Eastern Europe. The atmosphere walking into the Verizon Center is great with the bucket drum players and great location.
Definitely one of the loudest buildings I’ve been to and the fans all wearing red is impressive too.
Thanks Ted – you rock too! (I remember the pizza goals, too – those were fun!)
This is a GREAT promotion! Actually thye way it gets the fans going – if it gets the guys going too – you should pay them! The wings are great as well.
“Pizza! Pizza! Pizza!” That used to be awesome…5 goal is a way better threshold though. Better for us.
The promotion is great, though I do wish that there was a Glory Days in D.C. I’ve always thought “We want tacos” has a pretty nice ring too.
This chant is awsome. It has so many meanings.
Maybe you should consider to invite RedBull to sponser this chant on the jumbotron:)
Ah, the old days of the Pizza chant have been reincarnated as Chicken Wings. Go Caps!
Unfortunately, the pizza was from Jerry’s.
We also used to get a free half-gallon of ice cream (or maybe it was buy one get one free) if the Caps got a shutout.
I agree that the Wings promotion is much better.
Ted this is all thanks to you. I am 24 years old and have loved the caps my whole life. My father took me to playoff games at the caps center/us air arena and now I’m taking him to verizon and it is unbelieveable, every fan in the place wearing red or something caps, we have the horn guy and every fan in the phone booth gets into the games and no one shuts up no matter if we are winning or losing. And most of all the ticket prices are not outrages. What I’m trying to say ted is you my friend are one hell of a owner and this team gives me goosebumps everytime I see a caps logo or hear unleash the fury. I don’t even have a favorite player because I love them all from ove to carlson and alzner all play with passion and just have so much fun. I wish I could have the honor to just shake your hand and tell you thank you. Your a great guy not just a great owner.
Hockey tri-state area……
I remember as a kid you would get free pizza if the Caps scored 6 or more goals. Now it happens much more often and the wings are even better! We are more exciting than Canadians over our hockey team. This is a hockey town!
