Enjoy It While It Lasts

We are witnessing a nice little run, a run of games were we are truly dominant and performing to expectations if not exceeding expectations. With our win last night - 5 to 1 over the Ducks - we have won eight in a row and have 76 points. We are 19-3 and 3 at home. Verizon Center is a tough place for teams to play against us. Thank you Caps fans.

We are first in the East by six points and now second in the NHL only behind San Jose.

Alex Semin is playing his best hockey. His second goal was truly an exhibit of world class hand eye coordination. After the game I told him he was a magician. My new nickname for him is Merlin!

Go Caps! No rest for the weary. We play Friday and Sunday, four games in six days once again.

MacHeads Rejoice – iPad is Here

Love the concept and the design and the promise. Not sure I like the name. Sounds like a Jetson’s theme for swingers or something you do to the books if you work at AIG or a hygiene based product.

Check out the True/Slant take and watch the film on MacHeads. It is a religion now. Kudos to Steve Jobs for changing the way we work once again.

Gulp. Just Gulp.

Once the omelet is made, it is hard to put the eggs back together.

Check out this article regarding Newsday, the local newspaper on Long Island, and how it went from a free to paid subscription model on the web.

To date, this report says they have attracted 35 paying subscribers in 90 days generating $9,000 in new revenues but their web traffic is plummeting which will certainly detract from ad revenues.

The switch from free to paid will be a very tough nut to crack. It is hard to compete with “free and better.” Gulp. Just gulp.

Run – Don’t Walk

Go to the National Geographic Museum in downtown DC and take the tour to view the Terra Cotta Warriors.

Emperor Qin (China is named after him) sure had a sense of style and knew how to create mass produced output. Click here for info from National Geographic.

My wife and I toured the exhibit yesterday. It took less than an hour. It is mind blowing and so well done.

You will learn a lot. We are so appreciative to live in such a dynamic city. This tour will only be in DC for a few more weeks. Catch it before it goes back to China. It is an amazing display and worth your while.

Not Much More To Say

We are playing very well. We are scoring a lot of goals. We garner a lot of standing points.

We can and will never gloat. We haven’t accomplished much of anything yet.

We have scored 202 goals in 52 games. Our goals against are only 145 now. It is hard to score against us if you are playing in your own end. We sure seem to have a lot of balance now in our four lines. The addition of a Jason Chimera has surprisingly added lots of optionality for our team and coaching staff.

We play tonight – yet again – against Anaheim. They played last night as well. This is a tough, compressed schedule. I truly hope the Olympics ratings are through the roof for hockey to make this all worthwhile.

We scored seven goals last night and neither Mike Green nor Alex Ovechkin scored a goal. That is a terrific sign for our team.

We need to stay healthy. We need to create our own luck. So far so good. See you all tonight. Try to be happy. You can do it.

We Will Always Be Free, MTV

Here is an interesting blog post musing about the pending trend of charging for content on the web.

Many sites will begin to charge for movies and video content. The MTV movie blog is rightfully concerned about this trend.

It mentions SnagFilms and Funny or Die as two sites that they are concerned may start to charge consumers.

I have said it before and will say it again; SnagFilms will always be free to consumers. Our filmmakers want their films to be seen far and wide and they want to help charities in the same breath. Our goal is to liberate documentaries and good work films to the largest possible audience.

We may – in the future - innovate in some types of paid download to own services or offer DVD versions of the films but our streaming basic services will ALWAYS be free. Enjoy SnagFilms.com, the best value on the Internet today. And chill MTV. Don’t fret. Enjoy and be happy.

Earl W. Stafford, Hero

Earl W. Stafford is a real life hero. Read this account of his exploits on United Airlines Flight 223 this past Saturday in the Washington Post.

Earl is a noted local philanthropist; an active member of Venture Philanthropy Partners (VPP); and – by luck – will be in attendance at the Capitals game in our owner’s box tomorrow night.

His fast action saved lives and averted a catastrophe. Thank goodness for Earl.
