We are – Georgetown!

For those of you who were there with us, we all saw a fantastic college basketball game yesterday with the Hoyas overcoming the Huskies 72-69.

That was like old school, Big East hoops. We were down by 21 points and we stormed back. We hit the boards; we slashed to the basket; and we played great D.

UConn is a great team. I have no doubt they will be Top 10 at season’s end. They are long, fast and tough.

Georgetown played a remarkable second half. Austin Freeman took commend of the game. The crowd went wild - I ran onto the court. We are – Georgetown. Hoya Saxa. That was fun. I am very proud to be an alum.

Twenty Frames of Fame

I loved this shot by shot photography and I loved the last video. Here is John Carlson’s championship winning goal in all of its glory.

I thought last night’s game against the Senators was a good one by us. We had excellent team play; very good goaltending; and stars scoring all in front of a packed house. Go Caps! That was fun.

We now go on the road – yet again – so ends the home stand for three games against three division opponents and two in back to back games. It will be tough going I am sure.

I also enjoyed watching broom hockey after our game last night. That was a lot of fun.

How Smart is Amazon?

Check this out. Amazon is already packaging up my book The Business of Happiness with Bruce’s book called Gabby: Confessions of a Hockey Lifer.

My book hasn’t even shipped yet and already their inference engines are already recommending these books to a similar audience. They are amazing marketers. Kudos Amazon.

I believe my book will be marketed to a business audience; a self-improvement and self-help audience; and a sports-related audience.

Consider This My Thank You Back

Thank you for wishing me a Happy Birthday today. It is most appreciated.

To date, I have a couple of hundred emails from Facebook and a couple of hundred emails from friends and many comments on my blog with best wishes.

I can’t thank everyone personally so thank you so much.

I never understood the big hoopla around birthdays, do you? Is there one person you know that DOESN’T have a birthday? :-)

AIM Fight – Less and Less Simultaneous Usage

Is it me? Am I less popular and connected? Is it AIM? Is it less used now because of social networking and texting? I don’t know.

What I do know is that when I fought a friend today on AIM Fight, I had about 440,000 connections and was ranked the 17,000th or so most connected individual on the network. I am still top 5 percent of all users, I am proud to say.

Five years ago, I would be ranked at over 1 million connections.Either my friends are dying off in record number; people have deleted me from their buddy lists; or AIM is losing simultaneous usage which is very sad to see.

Go to AIM Fight and duel me. I am Leonsis. Use your AIM screen name and take me on. Go for it! I think you could probably beat me now.

Humbled and Confused

TSN thinks Mike Green is the leader in the midway point for the Norris Trophy. We agree. Why didn’t he make the Canadian Olympic team again?

And Alex Ovechkin is the leading candidate for MVP. Imagine if Alex hadn’t missed eight games to date. What would his stats be right now?

Thank you. This is very kind and we are very humbled. Click and enjoy.

What My Book is About…

My new book, The Business of Happiness, ships soon.

Many friends have asked me what the book is about and have also asked me what to get me for my birthday which is on Friday.

So I ask you gently and nicely to pre-order my book from Amazon.com. You will enjoy my book and you will be helping local DC charities at the same time. Here is the link again from Amazon.

My book is part autobiographical. I try to tell my personal life story and share my point of view of how I have developed a sense of what makes individuals happy and self-actualized.

It is also a business book. I write about my personal experiences at my startups and at AOL and how happy companies thrive and unhappy companies don’t. And how and why.

I lay out my formulae for happiness in a personal sense and in a business sense. I give literally dozens of how to’s and checklists on what to do to build communities of interest; find a higher calling; ways to self express; give back; and show gratitude. I also discuss my 101 List; how to build your own; and how to take solace and create opportunities from your personal and business “reckonings.”

The book is very conversational and, I believe, is a fast and fun read.

It made me happy to write the book and share my life’s experiences with you all.

Making Some News

The Washington Capitals made some news, too. :-)

We won last night 4-2 over a very good Montreal team. That was good news.

We named Alex Ovechkin our Captain after a unanimous vote by his teammates. We were reminded of the fact that Alex Ovechkin is only the second player in NHL history to be named to the First Team All-Star Team in his first four years in the NHL. The players gave Alex a standing ovation in the locker room when the announcement was made. That was great news.

Last night Alex Semin had a bravado performance. I was most delighted by his second goal - a rocket that even the opposing goaltender was impressed with - and it was wonderful to see our second young goaltender, Michael Neuvirth, have another great performance. I guess those who were concerned about our goaltending can now take comfort in the fact that as a franchise, we may have the best situation in goal for a group of young goaltenders in the entire league. We now have three young goaltenders that will all play in the NHL. Some experts think all three can be stars. Outstanding news, don’t you think?

And let us not forget that in the Junior World Championships last night - the Finals - the US against Canada. Our young D-man prospect, John Carlson, scored two goals; One to break a tie and then the game winner - the series winner – in overtime to get the US a championship. John had a wonderful series and was the dominant D man in the series. That was fantastic news for the US and the junior hockey program at large.

So a good win at home; a historic player is named Captain; sublime performances by other up and coming great young players; a championship winning goal by a prospect on national TV to secure a championship. A good news day. Thank you.
