Here is a story I just stumbled upon in the Wall Street Journal. It is highly complimentary to Alex and his skill set. I thought you would all enjoy reading it…well, maybe not all of you.

As the Olympic hockey winds down, I think Alex Ovechkin has the most to gain from coming NHL seasons. If he can concentrate on taking his team as far as it can go, people will recognize him as a champion. He doesn’t have to come back four years from now and win the gold, although that would be good. Ovechkin just has to focus on winning in the NHL. Playing in the nation’s capital, he has an even bigger opportunity than if he were anywhere else. If he can continue to shine the spotlight on his team in the NHL, he will be recognized as a champion. After that’s done, he will be able to assign his own importance to the Olympics versus having fans, writers and sportscasters interpret what the performance of his Olympic teams means to his legacy.
Good article! Especially the constant “Mr. Ovechkin” references. In my opinion, if OV was Canadian, he would be viewed as the second coming of you know who. I think he is the best player in the NHL hands down. As far as “Bob’s” comments regarding OV being more accommodating to the media! He has always been available to the media, always answers questions after games. He didn’t want to individualize his Olympic Team and thought it best to keep to his teammates.
Thanks for the post Ted
I like the way Ovechkin plays, but somebody needs to tell him to be better with the media, not too accomodating at the Olympics is the word. He can not turn into a curmudgeon with the media as an NHL player. He needs to be just the opposite, and he will attract more fans to our great game, and to the Caps most likely. This might be too much to ask of a young man from Russia, but with enough training on that he can do better. He did do a good interview with Jeremy Roenick.
Thanks for posting this!
It’s a shame Milbury is trying to bury the Caps fans on a regular basis. NBC makes watching hockey stressful because of that guy. If there is anything you can do for us Caps fans on that matter it would be greatly appreciated.
Great link I am going to spread it around. We are so lucky to have Ovy. It’s a shame he doesn’t get the respect deserved from such a great young man. It’s jealousy. Simple as that.
Sign Peter Forsberg for the cup run! Looked great for Sweden. Would look even better centering the Semin line!
