Logrolling in Our Times

Here is John Buckley’s blog”Tulip Frenzy” where he discusses “The Business of Happiness”. Of course, John was my co author on the book so it was nice of him to make these personal statements. He also links to a nice CNBC interview from this morning. It too was an honor and pleasure working with John on the book. He is a real talent and made me sound way smarter than I really am.

“The Business of Happiness” is Now #187

Wow I am so flattered and humbled. The book seems to be selling well and it is available everywhere as of today. See Amazon’s ranking for the book as of today. Amazon ranks 600,000 books being sold, so we are moving up the sales rank. Thank you.

We are also now a Top 3 book in the Happiness category, too. I am doing press tours to help promote the book starting on CNBC this morning.

If you read the book may I ask that you write a quick review on Amazon.com? Reviews are very helpful to the consumer marketplace and help with Amazon’s algorithm that judges popularity for a book. Thanks again!

New Orleans Has Come All the Way Back

What a sweet win for Da Saints and awesome news for the city of New Orleans. What a feel good story.

Let us never forget what happened with Katrina such a short time ago. Here is a great film called “Katrina’s Children” to remind us of what once was and what it can be.

Uplifting news and congratulations to the Saints! And they came back and defeated even Mother Nature. Click here to watch this movie.

NHL Made the Right Call

I am so happy we played the game yesterday afternoon as were 16k fellow Caps fans. All of our employees showed up for the game and the league showcased two great teams. The defending Stanley Cup champs and the team leading the NHL in points that is on a very long winning streak. On Super Bowl Sunday what could be better than that if you love the game of hockey? Some people are calling yesterday’s matinee game the “game of the year” so far.

It was a fun game. A game where we took the Penguins best shot and we still won. A comeback that leaves us feeling humbled even though it is just a regular season game. A win feels pretty good this morning. I empathize with the Pens travel schedule. Having to play back to back games and having travel problems isn’t fair, but we have been on the other side of these same issues. I guess it all evens out in the end.

Thank you for braving the elements. Although to be honest it turned out to be a beautiful day with no traffic and it became an easy commute to and from the game. I was glad I made the decision to go to the game and I believe that the NHL made the right call in NOT rescheduling the game.

If you can believe it, we now have 88 points with 23 games yet to be played. I think one year we qualified for the playoffs with 88 points.

We are on a very important consecutive game winning streak. 14 games in a row place us third in NHL history. This is fun. Enjoy it while it lasts. Go Caps and thank you Caps fans for enjoying the game yesterday afternoon.

Snowa Saxa

Way to go! Almost 11,000 fans attended the Georgetown vs. Villanova game on Saturday during the heart of the snowstorm. Those folks were treated to a great performance as the Hoyas won in convincing fashion.

This team is the real deal. We beat Top 10 teams now with regularity. We are now a Top 10 team ourselves and we are a key player in the best conference in NCAA basketball, the Big East.

We are all very proud of the team and how it seems to get up for the best teams beating Connecticut, Duke, Villanova and Pittsburgh so far this season. Hoya Saxa.

Empathy

I hear you and I too am snowed in. And my DirecTV isn’t working to boot.

I have been shoveling and hoping to get to the game today at noon. My neighborhood has had power outages for the last 25 hours or so.

Postponing or rescheduling a game is a tough call for the NHL. If both teams are here and the on ice officials are here and the network trucks and staff are here and the building folks have arrived, then it is game on. It has been that way forever for all sports leagues.

We are playing today. I have great empathy for our fans. I do not want to have anyone be in any danger but the game is on. You will all have to use your own judgement as to whether to come to the game.

We can’t offer exchanges for this game. We don’t have any tickets to exchange. We can’t offer refunds. We have to pay all of our expenses as it is game on.

I empathize and I understand some of your concerns but there are times that we must remember we are a part of a league. That league plays in many cities where there is a ton of bad weather and snow and the games go on.

This game is on national TV on Super Bowl Sunday. It is an important event nationwide for NBC. I apologize to those of you who have voiced concern. I have the exact same issues as you do in getting to the game. It is important to realize that weather plays a role in many cities for many games and that as long as the teams, the officials and the building support staffs are in place and the networks can broadcast – it is game on.

I will review this policy with the league, but for now, all we can do is make the best of a tough decision. Thanks for understanding. Go Caps! Wish us luck today.

Our Deepest Sympathies

Gosh, this is the saddest thing I have heard in a long time. The loss of a child is the worst thing that can ever happen to a parent.

My heart goes out to Brian Burke and his family.

Words cannot express the sorrow that we all feel.

Please pray for his soul. Please offer your prayers for peace to Brian Burke and his family. This is staggering and most somber news.

Come One – Come All

It is a big tent. Long time fan or new fan. Long time resident or new to our community. Everyone is welcomed. We love you all.

Diversity is king. Community is wonderful. As noted within in this article ”a sense of belonging”; being with your friends and new friends is a wonderful experience.

Last night was a wonderful example. In a snow storm, the game was played. About 14 to 15 k people showed up and roared with delight. The ushers were there. The food services people were there. All our staff was there. We were all in it together and it was a fun night and another win. We keep the winning streak alive.

It always feel like we are in it together and we are most appreciative of your support - through thick and thin – and through good times and bad times.

And to the few folks who were truly emotional over the last 48 hours - cursing me out personally about our playing the game last night; or our awarding too many free prizes to the wrong folks at a certain Caps event; or that their DirecTV didn’t work last night - I empathize. I understand and I apologize for all. We try to do our best. Sometimes you don’t like what we do. I received an email this morning about trading Chris Clark, getting Jason Chimera back and naming Alex Ovechkin captain and how that act showed what a despicable human being I had become. I get it. We love you. We want you to be happy. We want to see you all at games. You are always welcome.

The tent is big. It is warm and nice inside. Come on in. Enjoy the ride. You can do it.
