A Human Touch

Thank you. A sensitive article regarding Jose Theodore.

Jose is a great team mate. He is also a great family man and a wonderful husband to his wife.

He is only human even though we see players as robots sometimes. Just a spec on a TV screen performing for our pleasure, being easily criticized or loved. They are real people with real human issues.

Thank you for publishing such a true to life piece. Such an honest look at a family tragedy and how they are responding and how they are giving back to our community.

Embrace this family. Read this article. Thank you again.

  1. Jose is already a hero in our house. The Theodores are amazing for sharing their tragic story, as well as honoring their son and the wonderful work of CNMC.

  3. Jose is now my favorite Caps player. Not for his playing abilities, but for showing us the things that are really important in life. A very touching article. Thank you to Jose for sharing a bit of your pain. I hope our collective love can help bring a little peace to you and your family.
We have a son that almost died from respiratory issues at 2 months and at 2 years old. Both times he was treated at Childrens Hospital. I am sorry that CH was not able to save Jose’s son. But if he had any chance, Childrens Hospital was the place to be.

  4. I am very moved by Jose’s story and hope he finds some healing in sharing it. As Ted states in his comment- we fans can easily love or criticize players for entertaining or not entertaining us. This is true…but it is human nature to want to identify during times of struggle as well so that we all feel joined in some way. My boyfriends sons hockey team has a collection can which parents place quarters in with each goal. Since Jose’s foundation is Saves for Kids… would the Caps and Verizon Center be able to stage collection boxes at various places around concourses so that fans can place pennies, nickels, quarters, or more in for the save shot counts at home games? This is a local charity…and we fans would like to to throw in change for saves…not just hats for hat tricks.

  5. Thanks for sharing this story. I didn’t see it online. Very touching and after spent a lot of time in hospitals myself with my family – I love how he is handling this experience by giving back.
