Alex Ovechkin leads the NHL in points, is tied for the lead in goals, and leads the NHL in plus/minus. Click here to see for yourself. He also missed 8 games.
He is Captain of the team that leads the NHL in standing points and in goals scored and in plus/minus differential. And on and on.
Some folks take Alex Ovechkin for granted. I don’t. Thank you Alex. I think this is another MVP caliber year on display. Enjoy the ride Caps fans.

Ted, I was at the season ticket holder party where you were to announce to blockbuster deal lined up for Alex, and you did. I spoke to you and you were really kind! Alex, too!!!
I appreciate your vision and Alex’s too.
Not too mention how fiercely he plays and sticks up for his teammates. #19 appreciated that last night!
I couldn’t agree with you more Ted. Thank you Alex for not resting on your laurels. You have decided to take your game “up a notch” since you’ve been named captain. It was really nice to see you have your teammates backs last night in the Carolina game. When you saw them getting knocked around forcefully in the 3rd period you reciprocated with a clean hit on the players that hit them. Keep up the great work and bring home the Cup.
Certainly agree with that. He’s the most phenomenal athlete who has played for a DC team in my 53 year lifetime, most of it spent here. I’ve heard people say that when it is over it will be Walter Johnson, Sammy Baugh, Joe Gibbs and Alex Ovechkin on the DC pro sports Mount Rushmore. I agree.
You can’t compare Ovie to Ovie. He is allowed to have down time, so what, he is a superstar and he will return with a vengence. Ovie is very aware of himself and is not one who needs outsiders to tell him how and where to do things. I agree with Ted, this will be an MVP year for our Captain . Thanks Ovie and to all of our team and thanks to you Ted, it is well deserves.
When is the last time DC has had the #1 player in their respective sport? Why are we still daily hearing about the struggling Redskins and Wizards prior to the Alex Ovechkin/The Caps being even mentioned? The city needs to embrace what we have in this team. Also, why is Alex Ovechkin not all over billboards etc.. in this town?
How could anyone take Alex for granted? Alex is hockey, he is passion, excitement! Watching him play is one of the most amazing things to see. He is always making something happen even if it isn’t a show stopping goal or a massive hit. No I could never take Alex for granted and nor should any real hockey fan!!!
I know Oveshkin is something special, that’s why I don’t miss a single Caps’s game. I feel I’m watching sport history every time he’s on the ice.
Thanks Ovi
