Our Fans are Too Cool

I received two really wise and great emails yesterday from some of our fans.

One basically said–” Living well is the best revenge”.

The second stated–” Don’t feed the trolls”.

Pitch perfect. Thank you.

So while there is a lot of noise out there, let us focus on some signal.

We won last night 7 to 3. We are now 8 and 2 (I count the game in Chicago) without our Captain in the lineup. May we put to rest that we are a one man band now?

We have 103 points and we lead the NHL in points by 7 points. We lead the conference by 16 points. We lead the division by 34 points. Thank you.

We have scored 277 goals; we have a goal differential of plus 79 both far and away the best in the NHL.

We closed out our renewals from season ticket holders on Friday of last week. We are almost at a 97 percent renewal, which means that every single game next season will be a complete and total sell out. We sell out every single game as it is.

We were just nominated as “Best professional sports franchise” by Sports Business Journal.

Things are going pretty well here in DC. We are focused on the signal and we are trying to do well by doing good. Never lose sight of the big picture. We have miles to go before we sleep.

And one more thing… Try to be happy. I know some of you can do it.

  1. Ted,
Just ignore the “gloom and doom” emailers some people just are not happy unless they are complaining. I have purchased your book, my daughter who graduated with a BS in Biology last fall and hasn’t been able to find a job no matter how many applications she has submitted is reading it now and your book has lifted her spririts. thanks so much.
    A devoted STH, Go CAPS!

  2. Great stats, Ted. Congratulations on the Caps’ success. And thanks for the gentle needle. Yes, I’m happy, and the Caps are a part of that.

  3. >>>>Never lose sight of the big picture. We have miles to go before we sleep.<<<<<<<<<<<

Those are your two most important sentences. Because none of it means anything without winning the Cup.

  4. never seen an owner as open and accessable as you.you are the best team in this area for sure.now just go win the cup and put all the haters to rest.

  5. I am happy.

How about this stat – the Caps are 20-2-3 in their last 25 games; that’s 30% of the season. 2 regulation losses in 25 games? That is something to be happy about.

  6. Thanks for keeping things in perspective, and thanks for sharing so much with fans. just about finished reading your book, and I am loving it. Provides great guidance without being preachy, which can be very hard to find. GO CAPS!

  7. “Living well is the best revenge” – such a profound statement! I went to my first Caps game in 1985, but was stagnant thereafter (was too dire hard of a Redskins fan to share my sports passion). I caught “Caps Fever” two years ago and am hooked. What great memories this entire franchise is making for this city – you’ve set the bar high for other owners. Thank You and Go Caps!

  8. The only good thing about an Ovi suspension is that it fires the rest of the team up and we play great. “Nobody comes into our house (team) and pushes us around us.” :)
And speaking of Mulligans as in your previous blog, check out this video I found comparing the adams hit on ovi and his hit on campbell.
