We lost in OT in Carolina last night. The final score 4 to 3, it was a fun game. A game where Joe Corvo contributed in a big way to our team and where Eric Fehr scored a goal with 9 seconds left to tie the game and get us a standings point. This is Eric’s first 20 goal season. We are all happy for him as he has battled back from lots of injuries. He will be a big time goal scorer in the NHL for a long time. We now have seven 20 goal scorers in our lineup.
The team clearly struggles for whatever reason with 4 on 4 so our coaching staff has work to do.
Carolina plays tough. We have a true divisional rivalry with them. They are a much better team than their record suggests this year. I have much respect for them. They battle and play hard every single game.
By gaining a point in the standings we have a 15 point lead on Pittsburgh in the standings for the East and an 8 point lead for the best record in the NHL over Chicago although, Chicago has played a few less games that we have. There are 11 games left to play for us, 22 standings point in total to be gained.
Alex Ovechkin rejoins the line up on Saturday in Tampa (” this too shall pass”). We play Saturday night then come back to DC, take a day off and have a few days of real good practice time to work on systems and line ups. Then we play the Penguins at home on Wednesday night. Go Caps.
Ted,
Some people don’t appreciate how fortunate we are to watch this great young team we have, no I’ am not happy when we lose but, appreciate this great team as a fan who has been following the team since 1988. Gone are the days when we have to shout “shoot the puck”. Really disappointed in whomever is in charge of the videos at VC, if Varly is in the net we get Varly Varly on the board but when Theo who by the way is 15-0-2 in his last 17 games makes great plays nothing is put on the video board, a little bit of favortism? without Theo who knows where we would be maybe fighting for a playoff spot?
Have you read the terrible article that Jay Mariotti wrote on 3/15 on AOL about Ovie being a goon? What a hatchet job by someone who knows nothing about Hockey (he called Mike K. a defenseman)!
Teddy, Don’t forget COACH BRUCEE time out where he gets out “the old clipboard”, gathers the team together and puts together a SUCCESSFUL PLAN. NINE SECONDS left FEHR SCORES and at that moment in my head, we won the game. It was great! Lets Go Caps!
I read the fan zone comments, and it’s pretty funny the way that fans are agonizing over the team’s seeming shortcomings. They (1) refuse to focus on what we do very well; (2) don’t realize that over the last ten games, essentially since the break ended, no one has put up more standings points than us, even though the captain has been out the past two games, we’ve treated this stretch as sort of a new training camp by resting players and tinkering with lineups.
The fans don’t study the entirety of the league closely enough to see that, while we aren’t perfect by any means (to quote BB) everybody else has serious problems as well that may well drag them down.
