The “F” Word

Our country’s VP made a verbal gaffe the other day. It has been joked about perhaps rightly so.

But some folks have uttered that “F “word on air and it wasn’t a laughing matter.Check out this film The “F” Word. Click here. Very interesting and thought provoking. Watch it this weekend. What the”F” else you got to do this weekend? :-) .

Most Points in Team History

One of my goals is to always improve year over year. That bar is getting higher to jump over and I am pleased that we have checked another one off our list. With our 1 point gained in Carolina last night we now have 109 points which is 1 more than last season and the most in franchise history. I think if we win one more game and get to 111 points we can clinch the Eastern Conference top spot. I may be wrong but I think that is the case.

We will need to win about 4 more games out of 8 left to play to clinch the President’s Trophy for most points in the NHL during the regular season. That is another goal to meet. We have work to do.

It is very motivating to hit goals and for those of you who have read my book “The Business of Happiness” you know how focused I am on getting checks marked off of lists.

I am proud of our coach. I was very concerned about last night’s game. We didn’t arrive into Carolina til very late after a very emotional game against the Penguins the night before. Taking a point is a good result for a team that plays on the road in a back to back situation. We have become greedy and we aren’t satisfied with just 1 point but I was still happy to add to our standing points.

I have said it before and I will say it again we have “miles to go before we sleep”.

We should enjoy the journey though. We should embrace our progress. We shouldn’t be satisfied. I get the joke but once in awhile it is ok to say” job well done”. Try to be happy. You can do it :-) .

See What Happens When You Take A Week Off?

My family is the most important priority for me. It is spring break for my high school aged daughter. We promised we would take her and some friends to Florida for a week of sun and fun. I always meet my promises to my daughter.

So I am gone for one week and there is national breaking news about investigations into steroid dealings between a local chiropractor and a felon. There is some loose connective tissue between the chiropractor and some of our players as a few went to see him for back aches and I read all about it here at the beach. I see headlines and I get on the phone and talk to some folks, do my research and I do a quick blog post about it. It buzzes by. That was quite the cycle. There was smoke. I get it but there is no fire. I am hopeful this story now goes away. It deserves to go away.

I then watch us play a wonderful game against the Penguins. A great shoot out win. We eat dinner at 5:30 pm with the “half a sandwich and soup” crowd so we can catch the entire game live at 7:00 pm. A big win with a big passionate home crowd. The place looks great on TV filled with red clad passionate fans. Another news cycle spins. Pixels are produced. Keystrokes are recorded.

Then yesterday I am in the middle of another news cycle, while I am always transparent I am very respectful to process. It is not appropriate for me to formally address the news cycle regarding our negotiations with the Pollin family and estate. As I have noted the discussions have been productive and friendly. When there is real final news to disclose I am sure the people most involved with the process will talk but now is not that time. I apologize but I have been very circumspect in disclosure about this negotiating process out of respect for it. So stay tuned and thank you for your interest.

I think I will need a vacation from my vacation.
