F Street was FUN Street

We are allowed to have fun. We are allowed to smile and to be happy. It is our right. There are tough times. We have certainly had our share and there are times to be really serious. We know. We know. Keeping it in perspective and in balance is hard work too.

But last night was a fun night.

We won the game. We now have 120 points. How many points is that? There have been only seven franchises to garner 120 plus points, all of them being “Original Six” teams and then us as the 7th team to do it.

We were presented the Presidents’ Trophy at center ice by NHL executive Bill Daly. No one on the team touched it or frankly even looked it – NOT that we are superstitious or anything. :-)

Alex Ovechkin had a fun night. He scored two goals and garnered an assist. He has 50 goals. Only two other players in league history have had four 50 goal seasons in their first five years in the league - Wayne Gretzky and Mike Bossy. Alex now leads the NHL in goals and points and he has missed 10 games this season.

The Washington Capitals now have the top 5 plus/minus players in the NHL. That has to be a first in a long time as well. Schultz. Ovechkin. Backstrom. Green. Semin. The Caps have 9 players that have scored 15 goals or more. Mike Green has 19 goals. Should he score on Sunday we would have eight players with 20 goals or more.

Nicklas Backstrom garnered his 100th and 101st point and his 32nd and 33rd goals. He is now 4th in the NHL in scoring.

Alex Semin is 11th in scoring in the NHL and has 39 goals. I have a feeling he wants to be in the top 10 in scoring and garner his 40th goal. Sunday should be another fun game. We will show our appreciation to our fans, the last game of a fun season.

And then our work get serious again and our point of view changes. We have one goal and that is a shared and collective one yet to meet.

Have some fun this weekend. Smile – laugh – enjoy.

It will get dead serious next week so chill and kick back for a day. Thank you.

  1. Excellent post. I agree with your viewpoint on this. Thanks again for the quality content, more webmasters should follow the way you do things!

  2. I’m a club level season ticket holder, ok so we are not officially lumped in with the other Caps Season ticket owners (hopefully that will change next year with Ted owing the Verizon Center, but I was pretty annoyed today not to see 1 person in the 200 section win a prize or anything. It was called “FAN” Appreciation Day, not Capitals Season Ticket Owners day, not Upper and Lower Level Appreciation Day, but Fan Appreciation Day. Do the folks sitting in the club level not deserve the be appreciated too?

Actually, the Caps are the fourth franchise to garner 120 points: Montreal, Boston, Detroit, Washington.

  4. Ted:

I went to the game last night thinking that it would be a boring, meaningless game only to have another great sports experience with the CAPS. Can’t wait for you to buy the building and the Wizards so you can take those to the same level of excellence established by the CAPS!

  5. CONGRATS, HOPE OVI SCORES AGAIN THIS WEEKEND, AND HOPE SEMIN SCORES HIS 40TH. GO CAPS, GO CAPS!!!!

  6. A great game in a great season. It’s amazing to think how far the team has come. The 74-75 team had three players at minus 68 or worse. Those days are long gone. You have a lot to be proud of! By the way, I think spell check let you down on the last name of #28. Oops!

  7. Awesome feats Ted. Good luck.

ps. You may want to edit the spelling of Mr. Semin’s name.

    Go Caps!

(i don’t mind if you don’t show my comment :)

  8. Wow! The stars are all aligning. Now all you have to do is start selling The Chipwiche again on the concourse and we will win the stanley cup! I’m telling you, The Chipwhich (you know the ice cream sandwiched by two cookies) is the missing ingredient to a Stanley Cup!
