Thankfully the regular season has ended and we can now focus on our first round playoff foe the Montreal Canadians. 82 games are in the bank. Lots of numbers were generated by us this season.
We ended the season as the President’s Trophy winner with 121 points. 38 points more than the next closest team in the Southeast division and about 20 points ahead of our nearest competitor in the East. We won 54 games. We had the best home record in the NHL at 30–5 and 6. We had the best regular season in our franchise’s history.
We scored a lot of goals, 318 to be exact which is almost 50 goals more than our closest competitor. We had an 85 positive goal differential and best record in the NHL and on and on.
Our players collectively had great seasons. We had a 50 goal scorer, a 40 goal scorer, a 30 goal scorer. We had two players with 100 plus points. We had 10 players with at least 15 goals and we had a dozen players score 10 goals or more. We had 7 players score 20 goals or more.
I could go on but I won’t.
The regular season is behind us now.
We get a day off on Monday. We start to practice and focus come Tuesday. We play game 1 on Thursday night, at home. We have home ice advantage all the way through the playoffs should it be needed.
We will review our regular season in depth at some other time but for now we are grateful for our success. We had fun along the way but now it is time to put that all behind us and get ready for the playoff season. Thank you for helping to make Verizon Center a loud and proud building. Thank you for all of your support. We need you all to be crazy loud come Thursday night … Go Caps.” Miles to go before we sleep… miles to go.”
