A Bright Future

As I have noted, we will be even better next season.

We made a subtle trade several years ago trading a D man to Philly for a first round pick and that turned into John Carlson.

John is only 20 years old.

He is now a top 4 D man in our line up. He can actually qualify as a rookie next season.

He is a big time player. He is skilled. He is clutch. He is a two way D man. He is younger than my son.

The draft is a good thing.

We are committed to our plan. We believe in young players and our core.

Our core delivered yesterday. John Carlson has “the glow.” He is a winner.

The future is the present and the future is the future. Not sure what I just typed but I know you all know what I mean!

In The Playoffs

Anything can happen and it sure does.

Our fans got their monies worth last night.

We won in OT - 6 to 5.

It didn’t feel like a playoff game. We were down in 3 separate segments of the game - 2 to 0, 4 to 1 and 5 to 4 with less than 90 seconds left in the regulation to boot.

We overcame each deficit and eventually won in OT. You aren’t supposed to have to score 6 goals in a game to win it in the NHL playoffs but that is what we had to do.

We have great respect for Montreal. They have very dedicated players to a team concept. They are making great sacrifices. They are winning battles and they are blocking shots. We aren’t playing playoff style hockey yet. In fact, we aren’t playing very well and we have to feel fortunate that the series is tied 1 to 1. Both games have gone to OT and so I am happy we are where we are. Each game has been a battle and each game could have gone either way. Did we expect anything less?

Look around the league. All of the games and all of the series are like this one. It is the playoffs and anything can happen and it is! Each team is competitive and each team is dedicated. There are no favorites. Each team has to perform and win in that individual set of realities. Throw out the pixels and hype. It all has to be left on the ice and performance and outcomes are all that matter now.

This is the best time of the year. It is the worst time of the year. Emotions range very high and you can also experience tremendous lows.

I see it myself and feel it myself.

I sense the crowd reactions. I see it in my email reader the morning after a game. Up and down; highs and lows; happiness; depression; anger and love.

Oddly I was supernaturally calm last night. I don’t think my blood pressure modulated much. I always believe in the team. My partners were always confident as well. I thought we could win. I sensed we could win. When we were down 4 to 1, I thought back to the last game against the Penguins during the snowstorm or the game against the Blackhawks in Chicago and that gave me great comfort.

There doesn’t need to be too much analysis now. We are tied in the series. We lost one game in OT and we won one game in OT. Throw them both out. Only look forward now to Monday and the next game.

Thank you for your support. Thank you for being positive. Thank you for caring! Go Caps!
