Some Callers Brains Must be Exploding

How can this be?

Jeff Schultz being mentioned as one the best D men in the NHL. Along with Seabrook and Orpik.

I listen to the Caps post game show after every home game some callers call in and whine and complain, yet Jeff Schultz continues to improve and is now getting the recognition he deserves.

Check this article out. Allow brains to be blown for some folks :-) .

Thank you for your support.

I tease because I love.

Last Two Caps Games–Important Stuff

At Friday night’s Capitals game against Atlanta we will hold a small ceremony from the NHL presenting us with the Presidents’ Trophy.

It is the first time in our franchise’s history that we have earned this trophy. We can ignore it, run away from it or put it in the proper perspective. Most teams celebrate this honor in a big way.

However I think we will do a very low key presentation of it right before the puck drops on Friday night. Please note that fact and try to get into your seats by the time the puck drops.

I have received numerous emails from fans and media about this subject.

The trophy isn’t about us it is about our fans. Many fans want to see it get photos of it and touch it. We will communicate the plan soon but we will have the Trophy in the building on Friday night.

We have the honor represented by the trophy in the right perspective. We haven’t lost sight of what our main goal as a franchise is about. Plus we have earned the right to play at home for 4 games in every series we play this coming playoff season should it be needed.

But as one fan noted to me- “In 3 years you have gone from worst to first during the regular season. Thank you for the rebuild plan. You have met almost all of your promises and commitments to us. Winning the Presidents’ Trophy shows real progress as a franchise. Go get that last piece of the puzzle now!”

So that is what we will do. We will pay homage to the Presidents’ Trophy in a low key manner with respect and perspective. I am sure this will be discussed and debated but this is what we shall do. I hope you will like it. I know some of you won’t. That is the risk we shall take.

I want to remind folks that Sunday’s game is now scheduled for NBC national television. The puck will drop at 12:07 p.m. so be in your seats by noon, please.

Also I will be signing copies of my book “The Business of Happiness” starting at 10:30 a.m. in the main concourse. Bring your books and I will happily sign them. I believe you will be able to purchase copies on the main concourse if you are so inclined as well.

We will plan additional book signings at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in the coming weeks as well. Thank you so much for the support here.

Hate to Have Facts Get in the Way of Opinions

Jeff Schultz

Check out his plus minus for the season. He leads the NHL and he leads Alex Ovechkin now by 1. Check out his plays against the Penguins, his stats against the Penguins and his performance last night.

Thanks Japers’ Rink for seeing what most smart hockey people see and yes we agree Mr. Backstrom is pretty special as well.

Building through the draft and developing young players as your core. You wake up one day and the young players have matured and they are pretty good. Thank you.

The Best Review of the iPad

Here is Jason Calacanis on the iPad. Very well done and insightful. Click here to see for yourself.

I have ordered an iPad, mostly to play with or travel with it. I don’t use my iPhone as a phone but as a smallish laptop netbook like device already. I am looking forward to using the large touch screen keyboard for my email and blog postings, too.

I can see myself leaving an iPad laying around the house for quick and convenient use and connectivity and in my bathroom or even taking it on the road in place of my laptop. time will tell if this feels right.

I also hope to see if I can use it as Kindle like device as well.

I am excited to get it and may do an out of box experience blog post once it arrives.

Did You Expect Anything Less?

Even though the game didn’t mean much last night it still was a highly competitive game. A game that both teams wanted to win and both teams played hard with abandon.

I am pleased we won the game. I am pleased we have another first in our franchise history a regular season sweep of the Penguins.

We know it means nothing come playoff time but still I would rather sweep than get swept. Wouldn’t you?

Two more games to go and both are at home. We have too many regular season standing points to count. It doesn’t matter what the numbers say now. We are playing hard and we are playing well. We have scored 310 goals. See the attached standings and info here.

Miles to go before we can sleep. See you all on Friday. Go Caps.

Personal Updates

I was asked recently by a media member “Ted where are you spending your time these days?

Well here you go:

I am still very involved with Revolution Money now that it is a part of American Express Company. I am enjoying working with American Express and its CEO as to its digital platform expansion plans.

I remain Chairman of Clearspring Technologies, operators of the AddThis Network. The platform and reach here continues to boom almost hitting 700 million monthly unique visitors around the world.

I also spend quality time at Snagfilms and IndieWIRE. I am majority owner of these enterprises and both business units are growing fast and will soon be profitable.

I am on a constant book tour for “The Business of Happiness”. I do interviews and book signing just about every week.

We finished work on a new film which I will tell everyone about quite soon. It is a heartwarming documentary.

I am active and on the board of directors of several private companies including Groupon, Mediabank, Mevio, and Bridgevine.

I serve on a few public company boards including Rosetta Stone .

I serve on the board of directors of Georgetown University.

I am day to day involved with the Washington Capitals and Washington Mystics, as majority owner.

I am working hard on final negotiations regarding the Washington Wizards and Verizon Center.

I have full days. I try to answer all of my email daily and I blog every day as well and try to keep up with folks on Facebook.

And I get to spend quality time with my family.

What a Day of Sports

My head is spinning.

I can’t remember a day that was so filled with back to back sports action and debate and drama and action. And it was a Monday!

Let us review.

The Redskins made a huge trade. A big star is coming to town. A Super Bowl is discussed on air on radio 980.

The Nationals opened up their season. Potus wore a White Sox cap. The Nats lost to the Phillies. Traffic was off the chart bad but it was a beautiful day and fun was had by all even with the loss.

Tiger Woods played Augusta and held a press conference. The media swooned, snarled and did their thing.

Washington Bullets star Gus Johnson was voted into the basketball Hall of Fame. He was as Mr. Pollin once said “Dr J. before there was a Dr J.”– This is a well deserved honor.

Duke won a national championship. They have a proud program. Butler almost shocked the world but Coach K. knows how to coach in the Final Four. It is always about Duke. Congrats to the Blue Devils.

And the Washington Capitals won in overtime over the Boston Bruins giving us 116 points and a plus 80 goal differential. The worst team in the NHL in terms of plus /minus goal differential has a minus 67.Now that is a huge spread, isn’t it? Wow.

What a day. We are so tired. And today we rest.

Oh wait…we play the Penguins tonight in Pittsburgh in a back to back game.

No rest for the weary.

Sorry if What We Did Wasn’t Enough

Read this blog post.As you can see this poster is amped up and NOT happy.

We honestly want people to be happy. We are in the business of happiness so this kind of snarl and vocabulary is hurtful and bothers us all.

At the heart of the matter is convenience and comfort for all patrons at the arena.

When a customer “LEANS IN” to watch the game the person behind the “leaner” most often gets their view blocked.

We would ask you all nicely without snarl and tough talk to please be considerate. Don’t block someone else’s view. Treat others the way you would want to be treated.

Please be conscious of the fact that there may be many people behind you that are having a difficult time in seeing the action. So just be aware. Be courteous. Be nice. We are all in this together.

I am glad this poster got the opportunity to vent and I hope he feels better. Self expression is good. So is primal scream therapy.

Thanks to all for treating each other like good neighbors and as part of a very tight knit community.

Go Caps.
