Betty White killed it. Click here for her monologue on SNL.
Some of what she says is genius about Facebook.
WWBWD - What Would Betty White Do?!
I feel like I don’t use Facebook the right way and for that I feel old and bad.
She has me thinking…
By the way, check out the Betty White muffin skit. It’s a new classic like the Schwetty Balls skit with Alec Baldwin several years ago.
Mainly because you will receive all the details over a owner in the cell phone range that the mobile assistance provider has on them – we are talking everything; name, current address, all previous addresses and any other background data on record. In your incredibly reasonable price you study whatever it’s you need to know about who is calling you, your kids, your spouse or anyone else you care about.
BTW I made these comments after seeing the second half of the interview. Now I’m catching the first half of the interview because it’s on in the background. Since I was based in PA – Scranton – working in NYC mainly and with Hollywood, I had to deal with the egos of AOL AND TW execs. I invented the DVD Network (and honestly -it’s still a great idea). I pitched this to both sides. They all liked it but I used to joke that they wouldn’t fund us with a few million but would rather purchase us for a few hundred million (that’s what I saw as revenue potential). And you basically said the same thing in this interview. Uncanny. I worked a lot with People, Time Inc., Warner Music, HBO, Turner and AOL. Thinking back – we got a lot accomplished in a short time (9/11 took a little momentum out of us). I also led a small team that developed an Internet Enabled DVD player that combined AOL TW’s best technology and the content of the film studios and TV. DVD Network was interactive, ad-supported, delivered on DVD – distributed in various ways like TW magazines… Some high-level folks were listening. Then the DVD division was sold in 1993 and I left. I was a producer on a film then started the SpinDVD Multimedia Network (on a shoe-string) in 95 and developed patent-pending Klik2Buy software (interactive layer over all the video) … one guy basically. Man where were you? JK. Ted, let me work for you. Hire me. I’m a very creative guy who needs a break at a very crucial time. I have the right idea about the next wave of media. I have many ideas and skills. Endless well of them here.
Betty did great. CSI: Sarasota was amazing.
Am watching you on C-SPAN, and am so delighted with the quality of the content you’re discussing. I think leadership requires connecting creative thinking with deep meaning, letting that guide an original vision of what can be and knowing how to communicate it to others. Certainly this interview embodies that.
I’m looking forward to reading The Business of Happiness. Thanks.
Still watching C-SPAN… no you get Facebook – well, based on the statement: “user distributed” is on the money. Not sure if my last post went threw. OK, now I want to work for you or with you.
RE: “You don’t need a filter to form an opinion.” Right on! … “living in NYC or DC people there are disconnected…” Awesome! You mos def get it.
As much as I like Betty White and SNL… that was a joke. And sometimes a joke is just a joke. Sometimes it’s satire and has a message attached too. But Betty’s monologue reminds me of the dig SNL alum Tina Fey did with her show 30 Rock about Facebook. The desperation is apparent: TV is really suffering. Truth is that’s where the action is. Far funnier jokes about Tiger on FB than on late night TV. What it shows me is: TV’s backlash against Facebook is like the old attacks on the Internet in the late 90′s. Remember those days Ted? By the way, I was a producer at TW when AOL merged. What a cluster *&*^ that was. Anyway, Facebook is the Internet I thought it would become back in the early 90s – pre Netscape. Please get to understand it better. Let me be your guide – if you need one. Plus 400 million people can’t be wrong. I like it so much my pals nominated me for FB president. LOL. There’s so much going on beyond the jealous jibes that TV writers take. Matter of fact, many gleam their writings from some super witty posts by so many. There’s far more to this FB thing than meets the eye. But my embryonic start-up takes the best of all media and will be the future of media going forward the next 50 years. I have the model and the know how. BTW, I met Steve Case a few years back when I had another start-up that got to the VC level. Thought he was a very capable guy tho. I don’t blame him for the merger gaffes per se. Watching you on C-SPAN. Nice job. I like the term filmanthropy. Great vision! I’m a documentarist as well too.
