My wife laughed out loud over this one “Magically Delicious”. Read this and guffaw.
I have no lucky charms. I didn’t wear a lucky watch. I felt confident that it was “our time” to have good fortune.
Mrs. Pollin wore a lucky ring and Ernie Grunfeld has his lucky charm. It worked and I am thrilled.
I want to assure everyone that we won’t make the first pick in the draft a “sugar buzz high”. We will work to craft a team and a system methodically and with care. We will articulate a plan and strategy built around analytics and with our ultimate goal in mind. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will the new Wizards.
One player does not make a team or a turnaround. We have a lot of work to do.
There will be a new CBA soon in the NBA. We will have to keep that in mind.
We have a lot of players yet to draft and develop.
This will be fun and it will be hard and it may take longer than we think!
Be enthusiastic. Be positive and upbeat. Try to be happy and embrace and extend the good fortune.
Mr. Leonsis,
I am a paramedic and work a high stress job in the dc area. My DC sports teams are a release for me. I am so excited that you are now the owner of two of my beloved teams. I love your enthusiasm and energy and believe in your plan. You are honest and Ive always felt like you are one of us. Because of your honesty, I can still go enjoy my Wizards and embrace the fact were being built the right way. I cant wait to be at the home opener!
You said: “Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will the new Wizards.”
Let’s be honest with ourselves. That sounds awful – The Wizards name just stinks. Change it back to Bullets!
Mr. Leonsis,
I am a spouse of a military member, and we have been stationed in Germany for the past 6 years. While in Germany it was hard rooting for our team, Wizards, but we did it. Please Mr. Leonsis, please take John Wall, and just start anew with the franchise. The colors and logo, would be a great stepping stone, and I know we all would love the New Nation’s Capital team. The Caps have done a remarkable job, and I hoist their colors all the time, please bring that to our Wizards franchise. Thank you so much for this forum.
Congratulations on a terrific stroke of luck. Sometimes you have to be good to get lucky, and sometimes you have to be lucky to get good. And in this case, I think it worked both ways. Well done.
Now, if I could just borrow that luck of yours for a couple of hours at the dice tables in Atlantic City…
Dear Ted,
First of all congratulations- Polin’s ring and your Midas touch and the Wizards have the #1. pick.
Now since you’re a guy, I’m sure you don’t like unsolicited advice, so forgive me in advance. (I tried to find an email address for you, but couldn’t find one, so this public forum can do for now.)
I know it would not be trivial because of branding purposes, but lets face it, the Wizards brand needs a lot of work.
A Color change- like you did with the Caps! When you changed the Caps colors back to the traditional Red, White and Blue it excited and re-electrified the fan base even further. May seem somewhat trivial, but being in the Captol, we identify locally with these colors. (Case = Caps + Nats.
Just a thought from an fallen-away fan who wants to return. If you care to have a dialogue about it, I included my email in the submission form.
Thanks Ted- and best of luck!
Chris
Hi Ted, it has not been long but you have quickly started to build on the Pollins’ legacy. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the media interviews, the blog posts, the email address and the candor with which you explain the state of the team and your goals for it. It makes the fans feel acknowledged, respected, and included. It makes it that much more rewarding to be a Wizards fan.
Please bring us John Wall.
Ted, you are a class act for having Mrs. Pollin at the lottery ceremony. I believe in you and you are just the right person to turn around this franchise. I know it’s a chore and a lot of responsibility, but I believe you are one of the best and smartest owners in sports. We are so lucky to have you.
Don’t overthink it. JOHN WALL!!!!
Hi Ted – congratulations!!! Long overdue good fortune for the Wizards and you just want to feel like it is part and parcel of your positive energy and attitude helping turn the franchise around, post-haste.
Best of luck and good research and prospecting selecting the #1 pick and potential face and future of the Wizards. Wall does start with “W,” but I’ll leave that to you all
