All Press is Good Press

This chart regarding Facebook reminds me of when AOL had busy signals and our growth actually increased. Consumers heard about our service through the press and were exposed to our brand. And they thought, “That is where I need to be because everyone else is there. It is so popular that it must be great. I only want to go to a party that is crowded and hard to get into.”

It seems very counter intuitive but it isn’t.

Facebook gets a lot of press — it must be important. Consumers want to be at the hot network. The privacy issues being discussed in the media seem to pertain to someone else, NOT them. So sayeth and thinketh consumers.

Hence, the brand is exposed, the product and service are good, and Facebook grows and grows. The network effect in action.

Nationals Go Front and Center

You have to be bad before you can be good.

You have to build around the draft.

Your best and highest paid players have to be your best people and most coachable and respectful players.

The Nationals are ready to be front and center.

They picked phenom Bryce Harper last night with the first pick in the draft. He has been called the “Lebron James of baseball.”

Tonight Stephen Strasburg starts his MLB career at Nationals Stadium. The buzz is overwhelming but so great and positive.

Good things happen to those who wait.

I am very happy for the Lerner family. They have been patient and they have executed their plan. They deserve all of the good things that are about to happen to the Nationals.

As a season ticket holder and a friend of the family I am psyched. Go Nats Go!!!

Hershey Has Great Comeback

That was a fun game with Hershey winning on the road 6 to 3, and coming back from a 3 to 1 first period deficit.

Thanks to Comcast Sportsnet we all were able to watch the game last night and we were treated to a high level of AHL hockey.

Hershey is still down 2 to 1 in the series but last night was a sign that Hershey has shaken off the funk and rust of the first two games. Go Bears! Tune in again on Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m for game 4 of the series.

Netflix CEO on Distribution

Here is an interesting article and slide show presentation by the CEO of Netflix.

It discusses the end of physical distribution of films, and how streaming and downloading for all devices will be king.

This is something I agree with. Faster, cheaper and better distribution is why I created SnagFilms and acquired IndieWIRE.

SnagFilms has more than 2,000 films under contract. My goal is to have 10,000 films in the library at some point.

We have virtual distribution with almost 90,000 virtual movie theaters opened around the web. I want one million opened and operated one day. Today these virtual movie theaters are seen on almost 250 million pages. I want a billion per month.

We stream twenty million minutes per month. I want a billion minutes per month.

We support hundreds and hundreds of charities. I want to support thousands and thousands of charities.

THIS is the future and Reed Hastings is correct. Scale matters and streaming is getting better and better and cheaper and cheaper.

Check this all out today… SnagFilms.com and IndieWIRE too. Netflix as well.
