Americana

Watch “The Town That Was.” A sweet and bitter taste of Americana.

A beautiful film filled with nostalgia, sorrow, and beautiful memories. Self-inflicted wounds are always the most worrisome!

How is that for a tease? Dedicate ten minutes to this film. You will be hooked.

NBA Draft Tonight

We have the number 1 pick.

We also have the 30th and the 35th picks.

Three new players will be added to our roster. Let us celebrate. We have the number 1 pick in the entire draft!

We covet an additional first round pick, or we want to move up in the draft.

We want more young players. We also want to add veteran presence to help mentor players. We need an infusion of new talent, coachable players, and an additional steadying influence on the roster.

We have work to do tonight, over the coming weeks, and months.

Rome wasn’t built in a day.

I ask you all for a little patience, a little belief, and a little trust. We hope to use all tools of the trade at our disposal to get things done for our great fan base.

We have set our strategy. We shall execute it. It may take time, but we will get it done. We are committed to change. We are committed to pay homage to the past, but set a new direction for our team.

Wish us well. This will be a fun night. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Mystics game, at the VIP and Draft parties at Verizon Center tonight.

Alex and Jose

Both are and were very deserving of winning their individual trophies and awards last night. We are proud of both players.

Alex was voted by his peers as the best player in the NHL.And Jose was voted as the individual who endured the most hardship and overcame the biggest obstacles during the season.

I was disappointed that Mike Green didn’t win the Norris Trophy, but that should just serve as another big motivator to play even better for the fans next season.

I am not as big a fan of individual awards and shows as I once was. We have now won a bunch. In retrospect, the awards will be looked at as being milestones in individual careers, but the biggest life time memories will be built around sharing a collective trophy and accomplishing a major communal goal. Enough said.

In regards to individual trophies to consider, I bet Nick Backstrom will soon win a Lady Bing or Selke award. He will be deserving. That is my prediction.

Here comes the draft end of the week. What a busy week.

NHL Awards. NBA draft. NHL draft. Wow.

Edge City

Northern Virginia has become an extension of Washington DC.

It is fast growing, young, educated, and wealthy.

Kettler Capitals Iceplex is HQed at ground zero of our area’s growth.

As noted within, it is our region’s growth engine.

There is more office space in Tyson’s Corner than there is in Miami.

We may have bad traffic, but we sure have great demographics and growth.

Individual Awards

Individual awards are nice. It would be wonderful if we won some as a franchise for our key players, but as noted, we are much more focused on a collective award and it truly is all we want to win from here on out.

I think we are well represented by Alex Ovechkin, Mike Green, and Jose Theodore. Our coach will be there as well tonight cheering on his players.

I cannot attend. We have a lot of work to do in preparing for both the NHL and NBA drafts this week. I will be watching on television.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Enjoy the event.

Go Caps.

Shake the Man’s Hand

Wow. This is emotional and not funny.

Not like the NHL where you can literally hate an opponent after losing to them in a 7 game series, and then you all line up and EVERYONE shakes hands… everyone.

This is not the kind of sportsmanship the World Cup fans want to see. This coach is certainly not a good role model, but he is dressed quite well for a coach. Gotta give him that…Givenchy? :-)
