But It is a Dry Heat

I am leaving Las Vegas.

It was 105 degrees yesterday night at the game. I wore a suit as I came directly to the game from my first NBA owners meeting. I was hot but the heat is dry. No perspiration, but if you don’t drink lots of water you begin to hallucinate. :-) The NBA summer league is a tough, workman-like environment. The crowd was loud and raucous.

Many NBA owners, scouts, general managers, and coaches are in attendance. As are folks from the D league and the International leagues. The players play hard. The games are fun, but they are played in an intense manner.

John Wall played well once again.

I thought our team played well, too.

We are seeing glimpses of a young star in training. We are seeing John’s confidence build possession by possession. Our Mr. Booker looks like a player as well — very confident, very physical, and very fast with the ball.

I am glad I came to see firsthand the NBA Summer League and meet some of our young players.

I was honored to attend my first owners meeting as well. I mostly listened in the meeting. I have a lot to learn.

  1. Mr. Leonosis, first I must say, you are a very refreshing man and Mr. Pollin was correct in leaving the Wizards to you. I think that is cool for you to push for Ballou’s marching band(something Mr.Pollin would have done),since I am a former marching band alumnus myself, I cast my vote for Ballou.

Now, I understand that you all are trying to build a team but I truly hope that we are not subjected to another 14 win season. I am a true fan but two years of losing is really wearing my nerves. I say all of this to say that I truly hope that you all DO NOT let Josh Howard get away. That would be a huge mistake. This guy came in to the Wizards organization and was pushing for a playoff spot(despite the dismal record) and he had the younguns playing extremely hard. It was the most exciting ball playing I had seen out of the Wizards for a long while! I hate that he got hurt and I hope it was not in vain. He wants a new shot to show what he is capable of and I think he would really bring something special to the Wizards along with Gil and Wall. Anyway…..as you say………just my humble opinion.

    Sincerely,

A real tried and true, ride and die Wizards fan.

  2. Hi Ted,

I noticed and Phil Chenier (had the prettiest jumper ever)mentioned that JaVale does not extend fully on his jumper which lead to his shot getting blocked in the 1st qtr of last nights game. Suggest you bribe or hire Phil to give JaVale lessons on the art of the jumpshot.

Also, I wish folks would stop assuming that Gil is going to be a head case and that you have to trade him. As long as Gil takes complete blame in his heart and publically then all is forgiven. I fully agree with your handling of his current situation and your understanding of his dysfunctional childhood. Hopefully Gil & John will a be dynamic backcourt combination.

You’re doing a great job with the Wiz and I’m enjoying your book!

    God Bless

    Steve
