It is only the Summer League. I wouldn’t get too excited but these games do offer our fans a glimpse of the hope and promise of young talented players and what they can bring to our franchise.
I would rather play well in these games than not well. I would rather our best prospects shine than not shine. The games are competitive. The players are all working hard to impress their coaches and GMs across the league.
In hockey, I liked our team as it crafted an up tempo exciting style of play all built around a young core with vets around it; playing a system; bonding as friends in the locker room; being coachable; believing in the system and adhering to a culture that is built collectively.
I believe that is what we can and must do with the Wizards.
It isn’t a sexy news making system in the off season. It doesn’t rely on other players from other systems. It is like a start up built from the ground up. It will take a while to gel. It will take a while to complete but when it gets “good”, it stays good for a long, long while. And then you tinker and add to get it to the next step and then you improve until you compete and win a championship.
The plan is out there. It is transparent. It is authentic and honest. Some folks like it. Some folks don’t like it but at least we have a plan. We don’t do things on the fly. We believe in what we are trying to do. We think it will work most efficiently in any new system and any new CBA that is negotiated. Home grown vs. outsourced and developed – not bought, that is my belief. Building a foundation and adhering to a plan. Everyone bought in. Believing in the young and the new. Balancing experience with potential.
Come on out to some Wizards games this season. We are actually selling tickets at a very good pace right now. I appreciate your belief in what we are trying to do. Thank you.
Mr. Leonisis, I so enjoy the enthusiasm you have for all of your sports franchises and just your love for life. What a great many you seem to be. I have been watching and reading about you and I know that the Pollins left the Wiz in good hands. As for the Wiz, please don’t trade Gil. That would be a complete and utter mistake. Whether you know or not, Gil has lots of fans in the DC area. Those negative posters are the same folk under different alias. I truly hope that you all will forgive Gil and give him the second chance you said that you like to afford people.
Thanks again.
Your approach and new leadership has done wonders for the fan base and seems players alike. Been a fan since Moses was holding down the middle so this is good to see.
