Credit Where Credit is Due

Thank you Caps fans. To see almost 4,000 people at a rookie scrimmage at the Caps Fan Fest on a hot July Saturday is amazing. 4,000 people! A record take for our equipment sale, too! There were also thousands and thousands of people lining up on a waiting list to buy seasons tickets. Thank you.

We will be top 5 or 6 in the NHL in season ticket sales this season.

We all can hardly wait for next season to start.

We aren’t done with our work this off season so for those of you who are impatient I ask that you wait just a bit. Thank you.

I was deeply impressed with our young centers. At some point in the future - maybe not this coming season - I believe our center ice will be populated with players we drafted and developed. I thought our first round pick this season looked like a real break out player and for that I am happy.

Thanks again for turning out in record numbers. See you next at the Caps Convention and then at pre season games and training camp. Go Caps!

  1. I’m waiting breathlessly for the chance to get off the partial plan list and into full season tix, especially since my partial plan went up 44% this year!! Please consider opening up a bit more of the arena for full season plans.

  2. Good to see that this offseason we didn’t spend a ton of cash on free agents.
If you go all out to spend big money, make sure it is on guys like Chara, Joe Thornton, etc.. who become UFA next season.
I rather we get them, then get the guys in this years UFA market.

  3. Seems like a no-win situation for management this season Ted. It won’t matter if you get 8 all stars via free agency and win the division by 65 pts so you have nothing to gain by acquiring more players currently as we saw by what happened in the playoffs last year. If we get no one at all, the team will still likely make the playoffs and win the division barring injuries. If the team makes acquisitions at the trade deadline and they bomb much like last years did, that won’t go over well either. Best case scenario is probably to just let the youngsters play for the most part and make a midseason or early season move for some veteran experience to allow enough time for that player to develop chemistry with the team. Adding depth for a long playoff run does not seem to be all that important and just seems to be counter-productive to winning when people are scratched all the time. Hopefully with all the past mistakes, lessons are learned. The coaching staff will hopefully be more open to making changes on the fly and adjusting their strategies when needed. Everyone wants to put this past year out of their minds, but until the team reaches more success, the pain is not going to go away anytime soon. I still think certain players are not in the best roles they need to be in to succeed, as some guys don’t perform well when they are playing on top lines but would flourish as a 3rd or 4th line guy, or the 3rd pairing on D. Just the way i see it.

  4. Ted, we appreciate what you’re doing for sports in DC. We have had Caps partial plans since the 1990s, and went to MCI Center at times when just 8000 people or so showed up for games. Unfortunately, we are being squeezed out in the new season by the Caps’ marketing of tickets. All kinds of gimmicks, like Delmar Club, Wizzards/Caps packs, etc. But nothing for the truely faithful–unless we want to pay the ticketmaster fees. I am saddened by this and question whether the Caps are on the right track with this. You don’t create loyalty this way. It’s the Redskins path….

  5. What an awesome day! My only recommendation is for better lighting for the equipment sale. It was tough to see names and/or sizes in the dim light.

  6. Wow… jeez you could have warned us! :)
I ended up trying to “pop on by” on Saturday… which as you may have guessed was an exercise in patience and futility. Not that I’m complaining, I was able to see a goal and a huge open ice hit, but left after about 30min. As a Caps fan of 25 years, I never would have thought 4k people would have showed up for a “scrimmage”. Kudos to you on your marketing and media relations, and just as important Kudos to fellow Caps fans for coming out and representing.

Looking forward to a “short” summer

  7. Bold, but why don’t we move this downtown to Verizon? And make it really an event. Never been done? All the better.

  8. Ted, if I hadn’t been on my way back from the Bahamas yesterday (which is why I’m broke and among the reasons I’m not at the Mystics game today), I definitely would have been there all day with bells on. I missed the entirety of Development Camp this year, and was sad to have done so, even though I had a great time on my vacation. Next season, you can bet your hiney that I won’t be going anywhere in July!!! I don’t want to miss this again.

I’m definitely looking forward to this year’s convention – and jeez, I need to buy tickets when I get paid! Yipes! Anyway, it’s going to be a great year! Let’s go, CAPS!

And thank you again for a job well done. :)
