One Point of Clarification

In today’s Washington Post there is a story about executive changes we have made at Monumental Sports and Entertainment — with a focus on business operations. See story here.

At the Washington Capitals, George McPhee continues to report to Dick Patrick. George is our GM and Dick is President of the Capitals. That reporting relationship hasn’t changed at all. And at the Washington Wizards, Ernie Grunfeld has and continues to report directly to me. He runs basketball operations and is totally responsible for our team, its players, coaches, scouts, and related activities.

  1. Ted:

As an avid Caps fan and 10 year season ticket holder, I offer congratulations on your acquisitions and new business ventures. I’m confident that it will only enhance our opportunities to enjoy the Capitals.

One note, I am assuming that with acquisition of the ticketmaster operations you will have greater control over attendant charges. Assuming it is in your control, could you please consider doing away with the charge (somewhere around a couple of bucks) to print out tickets? While I’m sure this is an important revenue generator, it must cost nothing to have us actually print tickets. As I’m sure you can appreciate, it is a bit galling for a season ticket holder (or anyone, really) to have to pay to print out or give away via e-mail tickets we paid a large sum for.

Thanks for your consideration, and congratulations once again.

  2. Ted,

It is such a breath of fresh air to have you heading up the Washington Wizards, my family and I have been fans for many years and I have also followed your carrier and have so much respect for you and your business talent. Washington DC youth look up to the player on your teams the Wizards as role models and last year proves to be a big disappointment for our children. How do you plan on reaching out to the intercity youth and who from your organization will be responsible for leading this effort , I hope you’re planning to tap some someone who knows the city and may have roots in our community. I hope you understand that your team the Wizards have a strong influence on our kids and they need to have some connection too these player. I must say that the Washington Redskins and even the Nationals have done a much better in past years then Washington Sports. Congratulations.
