SnagFilms Celebrates Two Year Anniversary

We are two years old today. We made some really big news.

We did a deal with Comcast, Verizon FiOS and with Apple’s iTunes. And much, much more.

Read all about it later in this blog post.

I am very proud of the team that leads and works at SnagFilms. I am very happy that we have created a double bottom line exemplary business here. It is doing well while it is doing good for filmmakers; charities; consumers; and for the industry.

Credit Where Credit is Due

Thank you Caps fans. To see almost 4,000 people at a rookie scrimmage at the Caps Fan Fest on a hot July Saturday is amazing. 4,000 people! A record take for our equipment sale, too! There were also thousands and thousands of people lining up on a waiting list to buy seasons tickets. Thank you.

We will be top 5 or 6 in the NHL in season ticket sales this season.

We all can hardly wait for next season to start.

We aren’t done with our work this off season so for those of you who are impatient I ask that you wait just a bit. Thank you.

I was deeply impressed with our young centers. At some point in the future - maybe not this coming season - I believe our center ice will be populated with players we drafted and developed. I thought our first round pick this season looked like a real break out player and for that I am happy.

Thanks again for turning out in record numbers. See you next at the Caps Convention and then at pre season games and training camp. Go Caps!

Mystics Winning as a Team

Here is a good article about the team play of the Washington Mystics.

We lost our best player to injury in the off season and yet we are in first place in the East. We are 12-6 and we play this afternoon at Verizon Center. I will be there, will you?

I have always heard from our fans that if we win, we make the playoffs. We contend that attendance will skyrocket.

Ok. We make the playoffs. We are in first place. We have rebuilt the team. We are contending.

Your move.

Come on out and enjoy some great basketball. Support these great role model young ladies. Go Mystics!

Fun with Energy

It is only the Summer League. I wouldn’t get too excited but these games do offer our fans a glimpse of the hope and promise of young talented players and what they can bring to our franchise.

I would rather play well in these games than not well. I would rather our best prospects shine than not shine. The games are competitive. The players are all working hard to impress their coaches and GMs across the league.

In hockey, I liked our team as it crafted an up tempo exciting style of play all built around a young core with vets around it; playing a system; bonding as friends in the locker room; being coachable; believing in the system and adhering to a culture that is built collectively.

I believe that is what we can and must do with the Wizards.

Inception

This movie is mind-blowing in IMAX.

It reminded me of when I saw the first Matrix film. I walked out of theater thinking about the film and shaking my head in awe.

This is really a great piece of work. It really is a great story - challenging; great editing; directing; writing and acting.

It is a true marvel of a film and perfect summer entertainment. I was really impressed. I will go see this film a second time. Go see it as soon as you can. You will dream about it later that night, trust me!

Rock the Red in Logo, Too

Monumental Sports & Entertainment is the name of our new company.

Here is the logo and a nice article to boot.

There is no more Washington Sports and Entertainment. There is no more Lincoln Holdings. We are all ONE company now. No company acquired the other company. This is fresh - this is new - this is progressive. We are in it together!

Monumental is big. Monumental is stable. Monumental is local and serves all of our communities.

Monumental one day could be a great name for a media network, too. We own a lot of programming.

We are unique. We have multiple assets all under one ownership group: The Washington Capitals; Washington Wizards; Washington Mystics; Verizon Center; Kettler Capitals Iceplex; the local Ticketmaster franchise; and we manage the Patriot Center as well. Look to us to do great things in local online media networks and e-commerce apps next!

It is a Monumental challenge. The rewards will be great. The opportunities will be truly Monumental.

Mr. Booker

That is what I call Trevor Booker.

We all saw his stats before the draft. Off the chart! Many of us saw him play tough in a very competitive college division. He stayed four years and graduated from college. That is an important telltale sign to me as well.

Our staff had identified him as a player that would “fit” within our new culture and new team identity. We want fast, tough and mature players; all good in the room; all that have young legs and will run and run and run. Be physical. Have fun and love the game.

John Wall is tough, fast and smart with an over-the-top basketball IQ. Trevor Booker is tough, fast and smart and very dedicated to improving and to the intangibles and the fundamentals.

We believe Mr. Seraphin is like-minded too. The draft is important to us. Trades are important to us. We are rebuilding our team. We are rebuilding our culture and we are unabashed about those facts. Embrace the change. Welcome our new players with open arms. You will enjoy the enthusiasm, talent and the development.
