Mo Currie

I think the best answer to why Mo has improved so much year over year is twofold.

She is healthy and because she is healthy, she can work out and practice hard and work on her shot and timing. She is an aggressive player and her fitness level is really high.

And she has stepped up because she received more minutes and has more responsibility since we lost such a great player due to injury in Alana Beard.

Many times players jump into the pool and they become great swimmers. Mo Currie has taken on a vet leadership role and she has been outstanding for us. We are proud of her. She deserves this league wide recognition.

Caps Fans Read This One

This is an article in the local Pittsburgh newspaper.

It talks about what I have foretold you all. Let no good deed go unpunished regarding big game events such as a Winter Classic and an All-Star game.

I have empathy for this Pens fan. I am giving fair warning to everyone locally: These big game events are massive; fun; but NOT programmed by your team. The teams can’t satisfy everyone’s specific demands.

The league has many constituencies to cater to and when the Winter Classic is played here we will have the same issues. I also empathize with the league. It does its best to keep all folks happy and tries to treat everyone fairly.

I blog about these issues way ahead of time just to sensitize you all so that there are no surprises.

The game will be fun to attend. It will be a huge event. I am very supportive of it and our team’s role in it on the road and one day at home.

Yet I know there will be some inconvenience. I hope you all can go with the flow and enjoy the overall experience.

Hockey News Yearbook

Fun with numbers:

Nicklas Backstrom is the #3 all-time point producer from Sweden averaging 1.05 points per game behind only Peter Forsberg and Kent Nilsson. Who knew?

In the last five years Alex Ovechkin has the most points in the NHL with 529 and the most goals with 269 in only 396 games played. Nice. He is really a balanced scorer as well with 269 goals and 260 assists.

PP percentage: Caps were #1 with a 25.2 success rate. Wish that carried over to the playoffs.

Capitals have two of the Top 10 players in the NHL; three of the Top 25 and four of the Top 35 players as ranked in this edition. The foursome is the youngest group of top players in the NHL as ranked in Top 35 players.

Caps have Fab Freshman. Michal Neuvirth, John Carlson and Karl Alzner are all mentioned as top newcomers into the NHL. We have two of the Top 8 mentioned.

Caps were the highest scoring team (3.82 goals per game) and had most points last season to win the Presidents’ Trophy with 121 points. Thank you but now no one cares. We get it. We also sold out every game at 100% capacity. Thank you fans!
