Thank You But We Don’t Care Anymore

We don’t care about stats and about predictions. And about press and PR.We don’t care about what anyone thinks or says anymore.

We are in the bunker.

We didn’t live up to expectation last season. We are putting it behind us. We get the joke.

We have to focus now on the future game by game. We need to focus on qualifying for the playoffs. That is all that matters to us during the regular season. Then we can take it from there.

No more talk about higher callings and big aspirations. We are humble. We won’t believe the hype or preseason predictions. We shouldn’t even look!

We appreciate kind words and nice thoughts but all we want to do is play the games and improve over last season where and when it counts.

I hope you agree this is the right course of action for us as a franchise.

I don’t care about power rankings anymore. They don’t really matter.

Home Cooking

It tastes good.

One more win and we clinch a playoff spot.

One more win gets us to 20 wins. We had a big win over a very good team in Seattle.

Did anyone think we could get to 20 wins when we announced our best player was out for the season due to injury during the preseason? I don’t think so.

I am proud of the team; of Sheila Johnson; and the staff and the players. One more win.We need more fans. We need more support. We are here for you. Come on out and enjoy Mystics basketball. Thank you.

He is Only 22 Years Old

He is 7 feet tall. He is fast. He is talented. He is still developing.

He will toughen up through international play. He can shoot the ball.

This trade was a subtle one and an important one for us.

Yi will be in our rotation. Our fans will like his game.

I am happy we made this trade.

You will be, too.

Yi is also China’s “Mr. Basketball.” We are proud to have him our team. Hundreds and hundreds of millions of people in China will see the Wizards play now on a regular basis. That is a pretty cool by product of the trade as well but we traded for him for his skills and and his upside.

Double Bottom Line Teams

We have to win. We have to sell tickets. We have to generate ratings. We have to collect a ring.

Just as important, we have to create lifelong positive memories. We have to support our communities. We have to create a charitable giving platform for our players to give back. We have to create programs that activate our fan base. We have to generate dollars for good work. And we do.

While this article misses the point about the motivations; the depth, and monetary value of our giving as an organization and our ownership groups and our players and our fans – BY A HUNDRED MILES - it is spot on in other ways. Giving back is what we do to be active participants in multiple communities of interest. We don’t do it to generate PR. We don’t do it to fill seats. We do it because we want to do the right thing the right way. We do it because we are in a double bottom line business. We measure our wins and we measure our revenues and we measure how we give back. Same as the Washington Post Company. It needs to generate readership and sell ads but it has one of the most active local charitable giving platforms in the city!

Read this one please and help us to give back to our communities. Thank you.
