Amtrak is Awesome
I hope the Government is listening and will help Amtrak realize its dreams and goals. Read of their expansion plans here.
Rail is such a great alternative to air travel and Amtrak is offering fantastic services. I always try to take the train to Philly and NYC. I get my email done. I stretch out and relax. And I don’t fight traffic coming into NYC from the airport.
Many countries are investing in high speed rail. Once in China not only did I ride a Maglev train from the airport to downtown but also a commuter train that traveled in the countryside at more than 200 MPH.
America should be leading in this transportation segment. We need investment in our infrastructure. This seems to be a good and reasonable plan.

From the Blind Perspective
I got chills reading this blog post from an Islander’s fan. He is blind and he loves the game.
The Capitals have fans that are sight challenged as well. And season ticket holders, one of whom I have hosted in our box from time to time.
Have empathy. Celebrate the game. Read this one. So great.

The Pre-season is for Getting a Groove Back
Caps are now 4-0 in pre-season play.
But let us all be honest, the pre-season doesn’t mean much. The coaches are experimenting; or trying to put in place new systems; or playing different players on different lines to see how players mesh together.
Conditioning happens at practice and during the days of workouts. The games are used for analysis; for seeing who can play with whom; which lines can work; and which specialty teams and players work best together.
I would rather be 4-0 than 0-4 but don’t get too excited. We have a couple more pre-season games ahead - at home on Friday and on Sunday. There will be more experimentation and more test drives. The games are fun and I hope to see you at the Verizon Center on Friday night and on Sunday afternoon. I would also note that our first pre-season game had the most paid attendance of a pre-season game in our team’s history.
Pre-game Shows on Comcast
Thank you Comcast SportsNet for the great support.
I believe these new shows will make people happy and more informed.
Tune in before every Caps and Wizards game.
Wizards iPad Enabled
Don’t give me the credit though. Credit our coach and his staff.
It was all his idea and their execution. Kudos to Flip.
I got mine today and the app is quite impressive. I am proud of the team and its innovative work in this regard.
Genomes Aren’t Just About Biology Anymore
Check out my friend Jim Hornthal at the US Zeitgeist conference. This is an incredibly smart five minute presentation. Really worth your time.
Jim founded Preview Travel; took it public; and then merged it into Travelocity. He is now founder and CEO of Triporati, a company that I made a small angel investment in. I was also an investor and board member of Preview Travel.
This is important work. Algorithms rule.
