Facebook – Arrgghhh

Facebook is experimenting with a new security system.

In order to get into my account today it is asking me to identify people from their photos to make sure it is really me trying to get into my account.

I have 5,000 friends on Facebook - most of whom I have never met.

I can’t answer the questions. I can’t access my account. I have tried twice and I have failed twice.

There must be a better way Facebook. I have to be one of your best accounts and I can’t get in. This new way to secure an account isn’t efficient for someone like me on Facebook. Weird. The only person who came up that I recognized was Capstronaut - true story!

The Internet Gives and Takes Away

Mike Wise was suspended for trying to pull a “goof” on other media outlets.

Whoops.

I think the suspension is harsh but deserved. Mike and the Washington Post are beacons of process and hopefully journalistic integrity. This joke crossed the line. Mike is paying a steep price. He has taken accountability for his actions which is the first step in atonement. I know for I have made lots of mistakes in my life and career as well. And Twitter has a technical glitch – it needs to be held accountable, too, to its users for lack of uptime!

Playing with integrity is a third rail for journalists. Don’t touch.
