We are all very close with the folks at Discovery Communications. Thank goodness no one was hurt other than the person that activated  the mayhem there yesterday.

Last weekend my wife and I had dinner with John Hendricks and his wife Maureen; John is founder of Discovery and its Chairman; we all know people that work at Discovery; it is an iconic company locally and one of the best  performing  businesses in media  and  one of the best corporate  citizens in our community.It employs  thousands of our friends and families.It is a company that is in pursuit of a double bottom line–it does well as it does good! And it produces very high quality programming for a world wide audience.

One individual that was known to the company tried to exert his will on the company and its people; thank goodness it didn’t work. There had been numerous online rants by this individual — there had been numerous other issues with this individual; and it all came to a head yesterday — and due to the great work by local authorities; and the company itself; the issue resolved itself.

Now all very public enterprises will ratchet  up their security; will take online rants — and threatening  emails much more seriously. It is a sad state of affairs; but safety and security is the number one deliverable  for all enterprises –for the sake of their employees and their customers.

The online medium has emboldened some folks — their self expression is amplified on the web;most of the pixels get ignored — but now — what is typed and placed into the algorithms will be noted and taken much more seriously. By all.

Thank goodness all is well at Discovery Communications. We will be vigilant with safety and security matters; and take all threats very seriously.
