Quite the Streak

Saturday - Caps home opener.

Sunday – Roger Waters in concert.

Monday – Caps against Ottawa.

Tuesday – Wizards pre-season game.

Wednesday – Caps against Islanders.

Thursday – Wizards pre-season game.

Six nights in a row at our arena!

Might as well get a cot at Verizon Center.

It is a very busy time. It is quite exciting to open two new seasons at the same time.

I am overwhelmed with email but I am doing my best to read and respond to everyone.

I have to forewarn everyone that I am not really reading my Facebook account email. This forum is not a great way to reach me. I clean out my box infrequently so don’t get offended if I don’t respond. I find my Facebook email to be hard to work so just heads up.

Email me at WashingtonCaps@aol.com or TheWashWiz@aol.com if you need me to respond.

Thank you.

Rock Performance Art

I went to see Roger Waters in concert last night at Verizon Center with family and friends.

The tour is really spectacular. The graphics; computer generated art; choreography; and lights are just over the top fantastic.

I don’t think I have ever seen a show as well produced as this one. This next generation of CGA and live performance is really something to experience.

“Another Brick in the Wall”; ”Hey You”; “Is There Anybody Out There?”;” Bring The Boys Back Home”; “Comfortably Numb” and “Run Like Hell” were all performed to perfection.

The show was sold out. Roger was in fine form. A classic back on the road. Well done. Rock on.

Better

We played a little bit better on Saturday night than we did on Friday night.

Thank you fans for coming out in record numbers.

I hope you liked the better sound system; the new lights; and many of the other improvements.

I know a few fans in front of me liked the “dancing beer sales man.” He was rewarded for his enthusiasm with multiple purchases from a few rows. Way to go.

I hope you liked the win as well. Thank you. Go Caps!

Yi

Big. Long. Agile. Great foot work. Good hands. Skills.

Developing. Having fun in a great new city. A city that will appreciate him and welcome him.

A great job by his agent, Dan Fegan, who pushed him to focus on development and training this summer to hone his game.

He worked with David Thorpe who was one of the first people to send me an email welcoming us in ownership to the NBA.

David has predicted that Yi could receive the “Most Improved” player award this year. High praise indeed.

Another trade that we were fortunate to complete this off season and another player that you will appreciate this coming season. Yi and John Wall enjoy playing together. Yi can run - if you run - and beat your man. You will get the ball.

A point guard that rewards big men for racing the floor is most appreciated.

It ups the tempo and pace of the game. It rewards athleticism and young legs.

The Wizards have recrafted the team. We are bigger, younger and we can run. Should be fun to see.

Have I mentioned that it would be appropriate for you to buy some tickets? :-)  Go to website here. Thank you.

There is Nothing to Editorialize About :-)

As noted, time and time again.

The Washington Post is amped up. It is its own story now.

It writes stories; generates headlines; creates blog posts; creates polls; and publishes editorials. It created ripples in its own affiliated media pond. It has become its own community of interest.

I have had my say on the matter. To everyone. To the Post directly in meetings and via my blog and via emails to them. In fact, the editor who wrote this editorial told me that if we ever decided to change the name he would write this very editorial.

We haven’t changed the name. :-)  We haven’t made a decision. We haven’t done any work on it. It is “under consideration” because of the volume of emails that argue both sides of the debate.

But this is not a decision that I need to focus on. As noted we have many items completed in our To Do list; many items in progress; and a few items that we are considering due to the volume of email and suggestions. My issue is thus: There is now very little discussion on what we have done or this season. The focus is on what we have noted as input from our fans. Hence it is “under consideration.” The Post talks about it all of the time. I don’t. In fact, I don’t think much about it as I have my hands full with the seasons starting for the Caps and the Wizards.

You all now know where the Washington Post stands on this matter. At least in its editorial page. But it was also debated on PTI. Former and present day Washington Post columnists talked about it on ESPN. It was the subject of the Washington Post’s Mike Wise radio show, too. The DC Sports Bog has blogged about it. The monster has been fed. ”Hmmm. Tasty. Monster like.”

You now all know what the Washington Post audience feels about it due to their own poll. Go to Wizards Insider to see.

But I am focused on the here and now.

I believe this has all been blown out of proportion.

I understand both sides of the argument via the Washington Post itself. Good thing I am not being argumentative. :-)  Drop the puck. Get to jump ball.

Shaken

Like most of you, I watched our game on television last night.

I am sorry we didn’t play inspired and well and that we lost. I hope we perform better this evening.

I must admit that my entire family was truly shaken when we saw the incident to the goaltender for Atlanta.

We have great empathy. We put ourselves in the shoes of Atlanta ownership. We just felt so sad and so concerned. We are happy to hear that Pavelec is recovering in a local hospital but that twenty minutes of not knowing was truly an awful feeling for everyone associated with the game.
